Hey,

The RMC alumnae list of SAEs shows Frank Norris (1966) living in East Norwich, NY.  I found a phone number on the Internet, but it was disconnected.  Meanwhile, the SAE National list shows Frank Norris as deceased.  Can anyone verify that?

Herb,

I don't believe there was a "Frank Norris" at R-MC in the Class of 1966 [or 1965 or 1967].  We had a "Frank Brown" in Phi Alpha in Class of 1967; also, Richard "Dick" Morris was Phi Alpha Class of 1965.

I believe that there was a good friend of Henry Miller named "Norris" who drove a blue 1965 GTO convertible to Mary Washington at least once a week, but I don't believe he joined our fraternity. He was from Long Island, NY, but I can't find him listed in any R-MC Yearbooks [1964, 1965, 1966 or 1967].

Best Regards,

Scott R. [Class of 1966.5]

The SAE National list shows that a Frank A Norris graduated from RMC in 1967, and was initiated into VA Alpha on 6/30/67.  They could be mistaken.

Hi Herb,

When we were initiated into SAE, the national office brought in two or three folks who were initiated with us. Somewhere I remember a Frank Norris - hopefully it will be a bit clearer in the next few days weeks or years. Does R-MC list him as a student?

Although I couldn't spot any picture of him in any of my yearbooks, I see the 1967 R-MC Yearbook lists "frank adrian norris, jr" as a Senior that year and as a candidate for B.A. in economics and  shows reference to his being in "Phi Alpha" - back on page 211 of that yearbook.  Strange that there were no pictures of him with Class of 1967 or in Phi Alpha pages of my yearbooks.

I do remember Frank Norris.  I don’t recall that he was an actual member of the fraternity; but he spent a lot of time at the house.  He had a GTO and I believe he was Henry Miller’s friend.  Also, can someone change my email on sae409 to hrj...@aol.com.

Hello:

Probably the reason people don't remember him is if I recall correctly he went by "Buddy Norris and was actually from Darien, Conn. The reason I remember him is Miller and I made long weekend trip to his home once and it was a high 6 figure home in the mid 60's. To be honest I do not think he was ever a member. I remember hearing he got married and went to W&L to la school and the marriage did not last. Miller, Brady or Upson may have a better memory.

Bob and others,

My memory is real fuzzy, so I do not remember Frank or Buddy Norris and I certainly only remember Brady from Darien.  Let’s contact Ward; he is probably the very best resource.  I love the banter and enthusiasm.  All it takes is a bunch of old farts to make something happen.

Herb and all,

Frank Norris and Buddy Norris are one and the same.  Buddy was a Connecticut rich kid (parents leased NY Macy's building) who did not act like a rich kid.  I used to call him one of the New England Mafia we had in the fraternity.  He was not a member of SAE but hung out at the fraternity house, came to our parties and was an all around good guy.

Bob….. Yes, you are in the photo; third from right, middle row between Henry Miller and Robbie Astor; ugly brown blazer.  As Rob Hudson said this must be fall of 1967.  The seniors in the photo are the guys with Joe West, Mike V., etc.  This was the last Phi Alpha brotherhood or the first SAE group depending how you see it.  We are holding a Phi Alpha banner.  Jim, good memory on Buddy Norris, but I’m not sure he wasn’t a Brother.  In the above referenced photo he’s bigger than life; front row far left kneeling , blue madras sport coat.  Yeah, he was part of that rich yankee mafia as you often said back in the day.  Buddy had long  thick black  hair and would grease it back with Dippity Do hair gel before departing for Mary Washington, which he did on a regular basis during the week.  He wore a stunning grey long coat, and with that hair looked a little like Count Dracula.  I was impressed.

 All,

I remember Buddy Norris very well. Bob Bacon & I as well as several others form '68 rode about a hundred times "up the road for a piece" in his GTO (4 in the floor Hurst shifter with a cue ball on the end). His favorite word war GINDER which had many meanings.  He was great friends (NOT) with Snookums, the more or less retarded black man who hung around campus.

I have some old pictures that I have not yet sorted out (slides) including one on Norris passed out on a matress on the floor of Olin Dorm. In this particular incident we got Snookums to come in and lay on the mattress with Buddy and gently stroke his face until he woke up.  Ed Kellogg was my roommate during this time and Walter Credle lived in the dorm as well.

Buddy was a true character and a great guy, but never joined the Brotherhood.  His family was RRRRIIIICCCCHHHH.

Bill.

Bob…..Yes, I think I can do that, but give me some time because I have to unframe it and go through a little process……. But I’ll get that in motion.
