Papapetrou said here today that statements by Turkish officials on the
Cyprus problem, intended for Turkish public opinion, are not valid, noting
that a reference to Cyprus, included in Turkey's European Union partnership
agreement remains one of Ankara's short-term obligations.
Briefing the press in Nice, on the sidelines of the European Conference,
Papapetrou said "the reference to the Cyprus problem remains in Turkey's
short- term obligations and is directly connected with the political
criteria Turkey must meet in its course towards the European Union".

Nicosia, Dec 7 (CNA) -- Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA) has
announced the launch of two new services to be offered to the public next
Monday.
At a press conference this morning, CYTA's General Director Nikos Timotheou
said that the new services are the pre-paid mobile telephony system
"soeasy", an upgraded system of the "Symphony" pre-paid service, offered
previously by the Authority, and the selling of telecommunications
equipment.

by Rebekah Gregoriades Nice, Dec 7 (CNA) - Cyprus President Glafcos
Clerides today underlined the importance Cyprus attaches to the conclusion
of the Intergovernmental Conference and stressed that an ambitious
agreement, giving new impetus and force to the European Union (EU) and its
institutions should be reached, as opposed to a minimum agreement just for
the sake of concluding the Conference.
Speaking at the European Conference, President Clerides said reform coupled
with enlargement will make the EU the largest single market for trade and
investment, one of the most important political actors in the international
scene and will safeguard democracy.
