[01] Spokesman - Milosevic - Allegations
Nicosia, Dec 5 (CNA) - The government has fended off press allegations that
money belonging to the former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic has
been laundered through Cyprus-based banks.
Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou has said the government had not
received any information relating to deposits by Milosevic and added that
the authorities continue efforts to establish whether any illegal
transactions have taken place or not.

[02] Finance Minister - Stock Exchange - Bank - Loan
Nicosia, Dec 5 (CNA) - The Cabinet has approved a proposal submitted by a
foreign bank, located in a European Union country, to create a stabilising
fund for purposes of Cyprus Stock Exchange investments, Finance Minister
Takis Klerides said today.
Speaking after today's Cabinet meeting, Klerides said the proposal provides
for a bank loan of 100 million Cyprus pounds (1 CY pound is trading at
about 1,5 US dollars) and noted that this proposal "indicates the trust of
foreign banking and investment organisations in the long-term future of the
Cyprus Stock Exchange".

[03] Spokesman - EU - Turkey
Nicosia, Dec 5 (CNA) - The text of Turkey's partnership agreement with the
European Union (EU) is a very important tool which would enable the
government to monitor Ankara's moves with regard to Cyprus and demand from
Turkey as much cooperation as possible with the UN in their attempts to
find a comprehensive settlement, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou
said here today.
"Should Turkey fail to meet the terms of the agreement, it will find itself
in conflict with it and will have to bear the consequences", he said,
adding that "for the first time Turkey is faced with dilemmas and can no
longer handle matters at will".

Nicosia, Dec 5 (CNA) - The UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser on Cyprus,
Alvaro de Soto, said today that he would return to Cyprus in January for
consultations, and expressed hope that his visit would be in preparation of
proximity talks to solve the Cyprus problem.
Speaking at a press conference in Nicosia, after concluding his meetings on
the island, de Soto said he did not come to Cyprus with great expectations

Nicosia, Dec 5 (CNA) - Alvaro de Soto, the UN Secretary-General's Special
Adviser on Cyprus, told a press conference here today he would be returning
to the island early in the new year for consultations with the Greek and
Turkish Cypriot sides in a bid to prepare the resumption of proximity
talks.
De Soto, speaking after separate meetings with President Glafcos Clerides
and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash, said the invitation to talks
still stands and noted that he could not foresee any change in the
parametres within which the UN-led talks are being conducted.

[06] Foreign Minister - EU - Turkey - Partnership agreement
Brussels, Dec 5 (CNA) - Cyprus Foreign Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides, said
today that Turkey had gained nothing, despite its threats and tour of
European Union (EU) capitals.
Commenting on yesterday's EU decision in Brussels on Turkey's partnership
agreement, Kasoulides said it fully reflected the EU Helsinki Summit
conclusions, in that the partnership agreement would include an intensified
political dialogue, with emphasis on fulfilling political criteria for
accession, with a special reference to human rights.

[07] Foreign Minister - EU - Intergovernmental Conference
Nicosia, Dec 5 (CNA) - Cyprus Foreign Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides, has
expressed the government's appreciation to the French presidency of the
Council for "the important tasks it has undertaken in furthering the
accession process and conducting the work of the Intergovernmental
Conference on Institutional Reform", as well as "for the results achieved
so far".
Speaking at the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the Intergovernmental Conference
for the accession of Cyprus to the European Union (EU), Kasoulides noted
that "seventeen chapters have been provisionally closed due to the close
assistance and cooperation of the European Commission and the Union's
member states", adding that "we fully realise that the most difficult
chapters of the acquis are still to be negotiated".

[08] UN Secretary General - Cyprus Report
Nicosia, Dec 5 (CNA) - UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has said his urgent
call to the Turkish Cypriot side and the Turkish forces to restore the
military status quo ante at the village of Strovilia, on the south east,
has not been heeded so far, noting at the same time that the impact of
restrictions imposed by the Turkish Cypriots on UN peacekeeping forces in
Cyprus (UNFICYP) movement has been significant.
Annan, in his report on the UN operations in Cyprus for the past six months,
acknowledges unilateral measures the Greek Cypriot side has taken in
connection with the issue of missing persons, and notes the exhumations and
identification of remains.
