I wanted to record only audio with OBS Studio. So I have created a new scene and added just Audio Capture Device (ALSA). Then I clicked on the Start recording...button. It recorded both screen and audio. So another time, I tried to replace ALSA with PulseAudio, but it went to the same result. So how can I record just audio via OBS Studio?

To record only audio in OBS Studio, go to File -> Settings -> Output, make sure Advanced mode is selected. Open Recording tab and choose Custom Output (FFmpeg) in dropdown. Choose e.g. mp3 as container, disable Video encoder and edit the rest of settings to suit your needs.

So when I want to record my screen, it give me two option which are none and MacBook Pro mic but the thing is, when i use the mic of MacBook it will capture everything ( include the sound in the Mac and the surrounding sound) so is there any way to record screen with the audio inside of the Mac only?

The Audio-only Recording Mode allows you to record only the audio, such as the speaker and microphone, without recording the computer screen. The audio recording feature of Bandicam doesn't have a time limit. With the free version, you can record your computer sound and voice nonstop for over 24 hours without stopping.

As a Pro user, is it possible to record both video and audio when I am alone in a meeting? Right now, when I am alone in the meeting it records only audio, and after anyone else joins, than video is recorded as well. I need the video when I am alone in the meeting, too. Is that possible? Thank you!

Hey @katalintamas are you recording local or cloud? If recorded locally, I would suggest checking your file destination, as I had my video on and was able to capture myself in a .mp4, along with a separate file of audio (.m4a)

My friends and i play Battlefield 4 while we are on Skype so we can communicate better. What i need to do is to record the audio from Battlefield 4 and ONLY Battlefield 4, not the Skype conversation. I know how to record the output audio from my PC, but not from one specific progam only.

Not with Audacity on Windows.
Audacity records directly from the computer sound system, but the Windows sound system does not provide any means to record from one application and not another.
You could have a look at programs that are specifically designed for recording games, such as Fraps, Movavi or similar and see if they are able to do it.

At work, we have an Arlo Essential Spotlight Camera. We want it to record only video, without audio. I am guessing that this is not an option, since I've been poking around with the settings for a while without finding a way to do it, but before I give up I thought I would ask the community. Thanks.

Nope, as you suspected. Since the cameras have audio built-in, they will record using that audio. I suppose you could try a piece of tape over the mic opening on the camera face but that would likely just muffle the sound.

For personalized support specific to the Arlo products you own, access Support from within the Arlo iOS or Android App. Simply login to your Arlo App, go to Settings, Support, then select the Arlo product you would like support for.

When interviewing people in a podcast it would be wonderful to record only the callers voice and not us in the studio. We have professional microphones and would like to merge the output from them with the callers voice (calling to an android phone). Is there an app that only records the incoming sound (or record both but in separate files) or is it impossible to separate them due to restrictions in the operating system?

I would suggest rather than an Android application trying to use a Bluetooth or wired connection to the phone from a PC and using the PC/Mac as the Microphone & Headset for the phone. Depending on the OS you should then be able to record the incoming and outgoing audio to separate tracks at a good quality level. There are a number of sound recording applications for each OS but some sound cards have the recording of outgoing audio disabled see here for some more information.

You can set the 'File format' or 'Audio channel' Settings.
Call recorder has an option to record only the callers voice. You can go to settings Audio Source and select: Phone line, Mic, Own voice or Opponent voice.

I was able to do this using the Panopto Recorder for Mac, and I know it can also be done in Windows. Select no primary video, select the microphone, and select the secondary computer screen with the computer audio. Before recording, go to System preferences, Sound, Input, in the Mac Microphone lower the mic input volume to zero. Then, go ahead and record with the Panopto recorder. One important point here is to remember that you are doing a screen capture with computer audio. I would not recommend it for a recording of a youtube video for example. If this is the case, it is easier to just insert the Youtube video in the Panopto Editor. Another option is to upload an MP4 of the video to Panopto and use it as a clip with the Panopto editor. Of course, probably the best way is to use a full fledge video editor (Kdenlive, Camtasia, iMovie, etc.) to put together the video and upload the final product to Panopto.

Agree with @Carlos Coronel I believe Camtasia is a good option. One can use it to record video with sound and then edit the recordings directly using its built-in video editor. Recently my sis recommended Joyoshare VidiKit to me. I think it could be a Camtasia alternative as Camtasia cost a lot than average. Outputting your videos in high quality and then uploading it to Panopto sometimes just makes things easier.

when i push record and the dialogue box pops up. i only see the R bar going up and down (as it recieves louder and softer noises respectively). the L bar (left) remains completely blank. when i play back what i've recorded, i hear more sound in the right earphone than the left.

CBY TLSE did a good job answering, but if you want a simple solution then when you are finished the recording there is a setting you can use to change your recording-if it only comes in on one side-into a stereo set.

First do your recording. Then when you are finished right click on the recording. And then click "Stereo Prcessor" (Shift+P) this allows you to change it into stereo format so that you don't have to compensate by panning in the mixer.

I am using MMM 17 and had the same exact problem when I recorded...I bought the M-Audio interface from pro tools..still didnt work...I feel your pain except mine is the left side that is working and the right side isnt...

Hi, I have my third Revelator Dynamic. It is now my third attempt. When connecting it to my Samsung A52s 5g and recording a video via any video recording app, it only records on 1 channel, not in stereo. When I record to the Voice Recorder App (Audio only), it records both channels. When connecting it to the mac, it records both channels.

I have tried the following:
- restart the device
- replaced cable
- used a powered USB adapter as suggested by Presonus
- reset camera app settings
- tried a wireless USB mic and it works

I really love this mic but it doesn't work for what it was intended for. Is this a known issue?

I would highly appreciate any help!

Best, David

I use a Shure condenser mic with a Focusrite scarlett solo interface. However ever since the 1st time I connected it to the laptop , & recorded in Audacity & mixpad, It keeps recording only 1 channel, inspite of settings adjusted to Stereo

As others have said, this is the expected behavior. Your computer mic input is a stereo mic jack that takes signal from the mono mic on both channels by nature of the connector design. (On a mono 1/8" connector, the ring contact will touch the sleeve of a mono connector.)

Your Focusrite on the other hand has two distinct inputs, not a L/R configuration. One mono input comes from the XLR, the other comes from the 1/4" jack. You are incorrectly configuring it as a stereo recording when it is actually two distinct channels of mono audio. Your recording records the lack of input on the second channel as you have nothing running in to it.

This is correct, expected and desired behavior. There is no reason to record "in stereo" when both tracks would be identical. You can pan a mono source however you feel like for producing a stereo image in the final output. You don't have to capture as stereo to make stereo output and most recordings are initially captured in mono. (Some exceptions include things like keyboards that may have their own stereo effects that the recording should capture.)

Is your condenser mic a stereo mic? If not, then there is absolutely no point of sending the same data to two channels. Your default computer mic might be a stereo mic which is why it automatically detects two signals. If your condenser mic is stereo and you have two XLR cables connected to the interface, you should check the focusrite mixer settings. There is a possibility that you might have to change how things are being routed.

I recorded the demo. Audio played out my speakers but Replay didn't pick up any audio. This is a crappy way to record audio recycling it through the laptop mic but I don't see any other way to record audio.

I did a quick test on my end by screen recording myself talking over a video with audio and I can confirm that both the system audio and recorded microphone audio were present in the resulting recording. I've attached the sample Replay 360 project file for your reference.
