Workshop: Kate Stone: Textural and Optical Effects in Still Life Painting

Learn some new tricks from award winning still life painter, Katherine Stone. Kate will share her four-step process for paint layering and her methodology for creating a work of art that will not yellow, delaminate, crack or peel. With the help of a slideshow of close up photos of her own work, Kate will also share her techniques for creating textural and optical effects.
WORKSHOP: Iliya Mirochnik: Painting the Portrait in Oil

We are honored to welcome Iliya Mirochnik, trained at the Repin Academy and winner of First Place award at Portrait Society of America’s International Portrait Competition.
This workshop explores a direct painting approach to capturing a likeness and composing a portrait. Participants will paint either a portrait head study, or a study with hands. The focus will be on developing an exciting composition and exaggerating various elements within the portrait to express the character of the sitter as well as the artist’s relationship to him or her.
WORKSHOP: Daniel Keys: Alla Prima Still Life Painting

Join us for four days of intensive study with master of “Alla Prima” (single session) painting technique, Daniel Keys.
Each day Daniel will do a demonstration while discussing the skills necessary for creating beautiful still life paintings using alla prima methods.
Following each mornings’ demo, the students will set up still life compositions of their own and paint them from life while receiving one-on-one instruction.
WORKSHOP: Felicia Forte: Alla Prima Portrait Painting

Over the four days of this workshop we will practice a series of exercises designed to illustrate the fundamentals: monochromatic study, value study in black and white, quick sketch portrait painting. Finally these exercises will culminate in painting the model using the Zorn palette, a muted version of a primary color palette, allowing you ease in color harmony. I will demonstrate each day of class as well as offer each student personal critique and advise.
