Classical fine art training is as fun and beneficial to a young person as studying a classical instrument.
Young people who are exposed to the art training methods of the 19th century European atelier have the potential to develop the skills that could rival the Old Masters.
Sadie accepts mature teenagers to her Still Life and Cast classes.

In my classes the focus is always on good drawing and learning to recognize the big relationships of value and color first.
One of my own instructors once asked me:
“When you see a friend walking down the street, how can you recognize them while still a few blocks away? Is it that mole on thier cheek? Their long eyelashes? NO! Its the the big relationships of light and dark created by their form, the average coloring of hair or skin, but it’s surely not the details!”

We are thrilled to host the 2013 winner of the Protogenes award at New York’s Grand Central Academy Drawing Competition to share her considerable knowledge of figure drawing.
In this workshop students will learn to tackle the infinitely complex task of drawing the human figure by breaking it down through a thoughtful step-by-step process. We will focus first on creating a well conceived linear block-in, learning to work with correct proportion and sound structure.
