Intensives: Short-Term, Full Time Study

Two to Six Weeks of Full Time Study

Still Life Painting and Cast Drawing with Sadie Valeri

Starting at $1,200 for 2 weeks

Daily practice is the best way for an artist to significantly improve their skills, but many serious students of Realism are unable to attend a full-time program year-round. That’s why we offer the opportunity to study at the atelier for short-term, full time Intensives.

Intensives are full time study of classical drawing and/or painting for short periods of two to six weeks. Students can expect their observational skills to develop significantly with this extended, focused study.

Still Life Painting and Cast Drawing Intensives are offered year-round, starting in February 2015.

Studio Setup
Cast and Still Life Intensive students work with Sadie alongside her regular Full Time and Part Time students. Each Intensive student has their own reserved station to work at and store their materials.

Artwork, casts and still life subjects can be set up at a reserved station for the duration of the Intensive study period.

Students of all levels and abilities work alongside one another. On any given day we have absolute beginners up through very advanced students. Instruction is tailored to the needs of the individual student without pressure to keep up or slow down with a group.

Sadie cultivates a friendly and supportive environment conducive to serious, focused study, and often works on a project at her own workstation in the same room as her students.

Weekly Schedule
The Cast and Still Life studio is open 9am-5pm, six days a week, Saturday through Thursday (closed Fridays). Instructed hours are 4 hours per day, when head instructor Sadie Valeri and her assistants present demonstrations and give individual help at the easel. Students build their own schedule and attend the hours and days per week as fits their schedule.

Instruction Format
Each student can expect to get plenty of help and feedback, and will have direct, personal instruction from head instructor Sadie Valeri several times per week. During non-instructed hours, students will have time to work at their own pace through a series of accessible exercises, suitable for all levels of development.

Prepare in Advance with Online Class and Videos
Sadie’s Online Class and her short, streaming instructional videos are available free to all enrolled students once they have registered and paid a non-refundable deposit. The best way to get the most out of Short Term study is to preview and start the Fundamental Exercises described in Sadie’s videos. Please read course descriptions for Still LifeCast Drawing, and the Online Class for a full description of each curriculum.

Please Note: Sadie’s methods for teaching Cast Drawing and Still Life Painting is thorough and time-intensive, and the focus is on the process of learning the techniques and concepts. All students must complete Sadie’s Fundamental exercises to her approval before moving on to more complex projects. Students might not have time to complete a finished, highly rendered drawing or painting, but they will get a thorough introduction to every aspect of her technique.
