Hi all!

The new version of the SADI plugin to the Knowledge Explorer is here!
http://goo.gl/QNF7DY

New layout, new features, more stability.

This release was built to be released along with the ~26,000 new SADI
services that wrap Michel's OpenLifeData repository. See the
http://sadiframework.org News post for more details and a link to sample
data to get you started.

Feedback to @markmoby or to this list.

Cheers all!

Mark

Hiya,

adding Adrian to the thread, since it's his code :-)

Yeah, I need to edit the installation instructions... just didn't have
time yesterday to do everything that needed to be done :-) I'll try to
remember to edit that blog post today and remove the 0.2.0 download
instruction.

Check all is a good idea! ...could be nasty on the service providers,
though ;-) ;-) I will think carefully before providing that option,
since I can see a few downsides to having it...

Glad you like it, in general! I'm very pleased with it too!

One thing I noticed is that, when the new data is added to the canvas,
the new data types (rdf:type's) are not added to the class list. I am
not sure "whose problem this is"... my instinct would say that it is the
canvas' responsibility to notify the class list with its new content
(since there are many ways of putting new content on the canvas, beyond
just our plugin), but your developers might say it is the plugin's
responsibility to add the new types to the class list. We should
probably have a broader conversation about the hierarchy of
functionality within KE, so that we understand what behaviour to expect
from the various widgets. In any case, no hurry on that - we likely
wont touch the plugin again for a while, since Adrian needs to get
focused on his thesis work :-)

Cheers!

M

If someone installs from the ZIP and downloads the 0.4.0 dll, then they have 2 SADi menus ... they need ONLY the 0.4.0 dll - just to let you know, this may be confusing. And, of course, a DLL is blocked by Windows - you have to unblock it after you have it in your Plugins folder.

I have modified the instructions this morning. If you notice that they
are still wrong or in any way confusing, please let me know.

One quick Q: are there any OTHER plugins to KE? I ask because we have
bundled a lot of DLLs into that single SADI plugin (my understanding is
that they used to be a part of KE itself, and were at some point
removed... we were dependent on them, so we had to package them into our
own release). With this release, we are instructing people to delete
other DLL's that were deposited by earlier versions... but it's possible
that those dll's are being used by other plugin providers. Is this a
problem?

Cheers!

Mark
