The settlement of the piping system after fabrication could squeeze the wafers so tightly that it would be nearly impossible to remove it. Jack bolts provide a means to spread the flanges. Jack bolts can also be used with components that are mounted between flanges such as wafer check valves, spectacle blinds and orifice plates. A machine bolt with a heavy hex nut which is mounted in a hole drilled on the flange center line used as a jack screw.
ASME B16.36, which standardized orifice flanges, recommended installation of one jack screw per flange and position them in 180 deg apart. It should be 90 degree far from pressure tap of orifice flanges.
Although that is possible to thread the holes in the field, where threading in field is expensive, jack screws to be purchased with flanges which is drilled and threaded by vendor. Orifice flanges are purchased with flange taps and jack screws.
Jack screws also are common on mounting flanges for various parts of rotating machinery. Since the rabbett fit may be fairly tight, and the surfaces may pull up metal-to-metal with no gap to allow for a flange spreader, jack screws threaded into one surface and jacking against the other surface in order to make disassembly much easier. In fact, it would be nearly impossible to disassemble some parts on rotating machinery if not for jack screws because they are so tight.
Dear All,
Please can you people help me. This is regarding WNRTJ flange with jack screw. As per drawing requirement, flange with jack screw is required but due to non availability of flange with jack screw hole my vendor have drilled jack screw hole by himself on WNRTJ flange. Is it acceptable?
These flanges are available in three types of faces - ring joint type, Corner tap orifice flanges, and Raised Face type. In this setting, the flange is fitted with an orifice meter by orifice flange manufacturers. The main purpose of including an orifice meter here is to check and measure the rate of the flow of a liquid or gas. Amongst all the flanges, it is perhaps the easiest to recognize them because they have a hole that is drilled through the face of the Jis Orifice Flange.
In this arrangement, the face of the flange remains perpendicular to the pipe. These flanges make use of additional bolts, which may be referred to as a jackscrew. Hence, many manufacturers and suppliers have labeled this type of component as an Ansi B 16.36 Jack Screw Flange. The orifice meter consists of three parts. One - the orifice plate, two - an orifice plate housing, and three - a meter tube, all of which collectively form a meter. Each part is responsible for governing some part of an operation. For instance, the A105 Precision Orifice Plates not only measure the rate of the flow but also aid in restricting the flow or reducing the pressure. Flanges are used as a means to determine the flow of materials, and so they are some of the most highly stressed parts in a piping system. Hence, various alloy grades may be used in the production of an Orifice Plate Flange. From stainless steel to carbon steel, or alloy steel, the grade used will depend on the operation it is to be used for. If an application requires high toughness and hardness with moderate tensile strength and no corrosion resistance properties, the Carbon Steel Orifice Weld Neck Flange will work well. However, if both good mechanical properties and varying levels of corrosion resistance properties are desired, it is recommended to use a corresponding grade of Stainless Steel Jack Screw Flange for said application.
Usually two jack screws are mounted, and they are used to separate the flanges so that the orifice plate can be inspected and/or replaced. There should be one jack screw per flange and when the flanges are installed, the jack screws should be 180 apart. Orifice flanges are purchased with flange taps and jackjack screws.
The range of orifice flanges covers all standard sizes and ranges, and all common flange materials. Flanges are available in Welding Neck, Slip On, and Threaded form, and are typically supplied with two 1/2" NPT tappings in each flange.
NPT is the best known and most widely used connection where the pipe thread provides both the mechanical joint and the hydraulic seal. NPT has a tapered male and female thread which seals with Teflon tape or jointing compound.
ASME B16.36 covers Dimensions and dimensional tolerances from orifice flanges (similar to those covered in ASME B16.5) that have orifice pressure differential connections. Coverage is limited to the following flanges..
Jackscrews for ASME B16.5 and ASME B16.47 Series A flanges.
Bolt dimensions are in metric units. i.e. Bolt dia x Bolt length.
Jacscrews are fully threaded UNC to ASME B1.1 class 2A and dimensions conform to ASME B18.2.1.
Jackscrews holes are normally threaded in the field. Two holes are provided on a flange assembly.
Where threading in field is expensive, the flanges can be purchased with predrilled holes.
\nA jack screw flange is an integral component in various piping systems, designed to facilitate the assembly and disassembly of flange connections. This specialized flange incorporates jack screws, which are used to create separation between flanges for easy access to the gasket area during maintenance or inspection. \n
\nThe versatility of jack screw flanges is evident in their various types, such as the weld neck flange with jack screw and the orifice flange with jack screw. Each type serves a specific function, with the weld neck variant offering added strength for high-pressure applications, and the orifice flange type being essential for flow measurement setups. Jack bolts for flanges are a critical component, ensuring that these flanges can be tightly secured and easily loosened when necessary.\n
\nThe design of a jack screw flange is characterized by the inclusion of jack bolts for orifice flanges, which are strategically placed to exert force and separate the flanges without damage. Materials for these flanges range from robust metals for industrial use to PVC for plumbing applications. The choice of material is dictated by the operational environment, taking into account factors like temperature, pressure, and corrosive potential.\n
\nThe primary jack screw flange purpose is to provide ease of access for maintenance tasks. This design reduces downtime and labor costs associated with servicing flanged connections. Additionally, the flange jack screw dimensions are standardized, ensuring compatibility and interchangeability across various systems and applications.\n
\nWhen selecting a jack screw flange, it is crucial to consider the jack screw flange standard to ensure proper fit and function. The pressure class, size, and material are key factors that must align with the specific requirements of the system in which the flange will be installed. \n
\nIn conclusion, the jack screw bolt flange is a pivotal component in the maintenance and operation of flanged connections. Its design and functionality underscore its importance in a wide range of industrial and commercial applications. For those in need of such solutions, Alibaba.com provides a comprehensive selection of flanges to meet diverse operational needs.\n
Jack screws are generally produced in standard sizes from steel materials, though MW Components can customize screws with specialty materials and dimensions. These screws have a hexagonal head and a threaded body and are often used as cable connectors in computers or other electronic hardware.
Although most applications typically require steel jack screws in standard dimensions, we understand that your needs may require custom solutions. With over 30 manufacturing facilities worldwide, specializing in a variety of production methods, we can provide a wide breadth of customization options that include non-standard dimensions, specialty materials, and finishes. We also offer assistance with design, tooling, and prototyping as requested.
Orifice flanges are used with orifice flow meter that is why it called orifice flanges. The purpose of orifice meter is to measure the flow rate of either liquids or gasses that pass through the pipe. These flanges are always used in a set of two. In this image, you can see the complete set of items that used with orifice flange.
Orifice plate is a specially designed plate with a hole at center that creates a pressure drop to measure the flow rate. Please note that orifice plate is not interchangeable. It means you cannot use orifice plate of water line into the hydrocarbon line. Size of the hole and the angle, as shown in the image, are specifically designed for the service.
Next is the gasket. There are only two types of flange faces are available in orifice flange. Raised face and RTJ face. Therefore, only spiral wound and RTJ gaskets are used that too in the set of two for each side of the orifice.
These jack screws are drilled on the flange circle centreline at 90 degrees to the tapped hole and used to facilitate separating the flanges for inspection or replacement of the Orifice Plate and gaskets.
Orifice flanges are installed in a straight run of pipe in order to avoid turbulence at the plate. As a rule of thumb, an orifice flange has ten diameters of straight pipe upstream and five diameters of straight pipe downstream. In general pressure taps kept at the same elevation to each other.
