SADC Member States' Meeting on Implementation of SADC Pooled Procurement Strategy 23-27 Sept 2013

Dear Colleagues,
I would like to inform you about a meeting of all member states that has been called by the SADC Secretariat to discuss the operationalization of the pooled procurement strategy. In the letter from the SADC Deputy Executive Secretary for Regional Integration, Eng. João Samuel Caholo, to Ministries of Health, names of nominated participants representing the Head of Pharmaceutical Services; Head of Medical Stores; Head of Medicines Regulatory Affairs and Legal Advisors were supposed to be submitted by the 9th of September 2013. Part of the text of the invitation was as follows:
“We write to inform you that Ministers of Health and Ministers Responsible for HIV and AIDS during their meeting held in Maputo, Mozambique in 2012, they approved the SADC Strategy for Pooled Procurement of Essential Medicines and Health Commodities. In view of this, the SADC Secretariat are convening a workshop to operationalize the establishment of the e-platforms and its management. The scheduled workshop will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa from 23rd – 27th September 2013.
The objectives of the workshop will be to:
i). Establishment of the functional medicines information and work sharing e-platforms;
ii). Develop the draft implementation plan of the; and
iii). Establish the coordination mechanism for Pooled Procurement Strategy.”

Kindly check if your country is procuring Clofazimine tablets and link our Botswana colleagues with the source of the product. If it coming as a donation, kindly proceed and link them up with the development partner so that the source can be accessed. Time in the case of XDR TB is of the essence.
