Dear Colleagues,

Thanks to Claude for quickly coming in to assist. I am interested to know how other countries have recently sourced these items. Could they have been among the products that returned no interested bidders, say, in Tanzania or Zambia?. What can Annie, Heri or Fred say about this? Some countries could have received a direct donation via a vertical programme. Who delivered the products? It would be good to learn from all the other countries whether they have successfully procured the products and if so where they got them from.

I also shared Farooq's query with the Deputy Director-General of South Africa, Dr Anban Pillay. He requested Mr Morena Mokhoana from the Biovac Insititute in SA to assist.

From their website, this is a public-private initiative between the Government of South Africa and the private sector. They seem to distribute all vaccines needed for the expanded programme on immunisation.

Just to note that there is a global shortage of polio and measles owing to the campaigns that WHO is running as part of the polio eradication campaign therefore the few suppliers globally are struggling to keep up  with the demand and even SA supplies are very constrained.
