Hi Everyone,

Treatment guidelines changes, which happen quite often in HIV/AIDS care and treatment, do have a costly impact on supply chains, usually through obsolescence of products that are being phased out. Many times, unfortunately, such products end up expiring and becoming wasted resources. Informing one another about such situations could help save the resources especially if in another country such products would still be useful. The best organisations to check with are the HIV/AIDS care and treatment programs.

Because of my locality I contacted the Malawi AIDS Program if they could take the Stavudine tablets. Malawi was until a few months ago still heavily using Stavudine based regimens. They too are actively switching patients to Tenofovir based regimens. They do have a large number of people still on Stavudine but all of them are on the triple fixed dose combination of Stavudine/Lamivudine/Nevirapine, so they are not able to take the single strength tablets.

If other countries within the group have still got patients on Stavudine, please inform us so that we can avoid wasting the product.

Best wishes

What about asking the suppliers for advise? They may check with their clients for possible interest.
