The COSATU-affiliated Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) has settled its 2022/2024 wage negotiations in the Woven & Crochet textile sub-sector.

This new 2-year collective agreement was successfully concluded under the auspices of the National Textile Bargaining Council (NTBC),  with employers represented by the Narrow Fabric Manufacturers Association (NFMA).

The collective agreement is effective from 1 July 2022 until 30 June 2024.

Year 1 of this new 2-year collective agreement covers the period 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2023.

Year 2 covers the period from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024.

For Year 1, our members in the textile sub-sector will receive a 6.5% wage increase, with the following additional provisions:

With effect from 1 January 2023, our members in the "Braiding" part of this textile sub-sector will receive an additional 0.5% wage increase;

the long service allowance will be increased by 25c to R1.25 per week per year of service;

from 2022, public holidays which fall on a Saturday during the year-end annual shutdown period will be paid.

For Year 2  of the new collective agreement, our members will receive a wage increase of CPI + 0. 5%, based on Stats SA CPI figures for March 2023, plus a 0.25c  increase in the long service allowance to R1.50 per week per year of service, as well as a 0.5% increase in the annual bonus provision.

For Year 2, this collective agreement allows for re-negotiations should the March 2023 CPI fall below 4.5% or above 8%.

The signature process for this new collective agreement was completed on Friday 3 June 2022.

The signed agreement will be submitted to the Minister of Employment & Labour for gazettal and extension to non-party employers.
