Dear Friend, I know you recently heard from my beloved fellow Board Member, Justyn, about the launch of Woodhull’s Community Access Fund. Your support is working to make this year’s Summit one for the books – where we are making more efforts to bring in the diverse communities and backgrounds which make up the full landscape of “sexual freedom.” I wanted to talk about one more way that your support of the Community Access Fund is being used to make that vision a reality. The last year has included one hit after another for folks who trade sex. Because of bad laws and vicious enforcement, last year sex workers saw the closure of almost every major internet platform used to advertise services. That, on top of more and more local ordinances and state laws increasing criminalization, has meant that sex workers are facing more vulnerability to violence, stigma, health consequences, and exploitation. But we’re trying to use this as a moment not just to mourn, but to mobilize. This year, the Sex Workers Outreach Project-USA is our designated partner for the Summit. Your generosity is funding not only an entire track of workshops about the issues faced by people who trade sex, but a closed institute where organizers from and focused on the community will come together to learn and share skills around organizing and advocacy. With your help, we’re working to raise $10,000 to launch the Community Access Fund. Your support will help make lodging available for SWOP-USA members so that it’s easier for sex workers to come together to organize and face the political battles ahead. |
