Good evening everyone,

The One Broadway Plaza project had its hearing this past Monday, March 30. After several hours of online discussion, the Planning Commission opted to delay its vote until tomorrow evening, April 2, at 5:30 PM. Please read City's email about tomorrow's meeting. You will be able to watch, submit written comments and also call in to express your concerns,

The Planning Commissioners listened to the public's concerns that:

* the developer, Michael Harrah wants to now exclude affordable housing in the tower

* the project should prepare a new environmental impact report (an EIR) to better understand its impacts since a dozen other apartment projects are in planning or the development in the area around One Broadway Plaza (adding another 1,000 units)

* the project should provide traffic mitigations and traffic calming measures

* One Broadway Plaza provide park land, and other benefits.

Other commenters raised the question why was the Planning Commission is even meeting during a world-wide pandemic, which may include between 100,000 to 240,000 American deaths, and where our City is operating under emergency conditions. The answer is the developer wants to revise his project to make it more desirable to investors. That's it.

The project does not provide any significant benefit to the public. The project does however generate over 3000 vehicle trips per day, will impact 6 adjoining neighborhoods, and will likely clog Main Street and Broadway. I will recommend to the Planning Commission that this hearing, in fact all Planning Commission hearings, unless they pertain to the current health crisis, be delayed until the corona virus has passed.

The public are frightened, and this is clearly not a time for business as usual. This is a time to focus on family, friends and community and being safe

Email your Councilmember to tell him or her to delay the hearing, and wait until our community is able to safely meet in a public forum. Please see the contact information below:

The agenda for the adjourned meeting is available at www.santa-ana.org/cc/city-meetings. It is located under the “Upcoming Events” section.
