2525 N. Main Street Apartment Project - Santa Ana City Council Meeting - April 21, at 5:45 PM

Good day Everyone,

On April 21, this coming Tuesday evening, and beginning at 5:45 PM, the Santa Ana City Council will consider two large development projects which have great consequence to the residents of the City, and our quality of life.

The first is Agenda Item 50A, Certification of Sufficiency of Referendum Petition Challenging Ordinance No-2980 for the 2525 N. Main Street apartment complex. The project is proposed on the east side of Main Street, immediately north of the Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway. The second project is One Broadway Plaza, a 37-story office tower, which will follow in a subsequent email.

Santa Ana residents circulated a referendum petition to challenge City Council's approval of the 2525 N. Main Street project, which would adjoin the Park Santiago Neighborhood. A sufficient number of valid signatures was collected, and the Santa Ana City Council must now:

1. Pass a resolution to certify that a sufficient number of registered Santa Ana residents oppose City Council's adoption of Ordinance No. 2980, which approved the project, and as a result, the City Council must either:

Option 1 - Adopt an ordinance repealing Ordinance No. 2980, thus terminating the apartment project, or

Option 2 - Direct staff to prepare a resolution calling for a general municipal election on November 3, 2020 for the submission of the question whether to approve Ordinance No. NS-2980, or

Option 3 - Direct staff to prepare a resolution calling for a special municipal election for the submission of the question whether to approve Ordinance No. NS-2980.

COUNCIL MEMBERS WHO OPPOSE THE APARTMENT PROJECT:

Mayor Miguel Pulido, and Councilpersons Phil Bacerra, and Juan Villegas. Councilpersons Vincent Sarmiento and David Penaloza voted in favor of the project, and have now started they will oppose the project.

COUNCIL MEMBERS WHO SUPPORT THE APARTMENT PROJECT

Councilpersons Jose Solorio and Cecilia Iglesias. Neither has clearly stated that they will change their vote.

Please contact the City Council (see the contact list below) to insure each will OPPOSE 2525 N. Main Street, and that they select Option #1, repealing Ordinance No. NS-2980.
