One fine day, we all would have got out of school. By then, we hardly had little knowledge about outside world. Sathankulam is a small town; most of the youth living here has little exposure to the outside world. However, we learnt things faster to stand in the competitive world. It was possible because of the traits we acquired during our school days. School does not teach academic lessons; it teaches how to take life forward.
Our school has been functioning with little resources; there are no two ways about it. Still, it gives many memorable events that last forever in our minds. At any point of our life, we would have thought about our school. Some of the thoughts would have been about improving the school; some of them would have been like feeling bad about the facilities available at the school. But none of them would have been out of the welfare of the school.
It is no wonder about a school functioning at urban areas producing good results. But it is remarkable that a school giving free education is living up to the expectations (in academic). Sometimes it comes beyond the expectations. Whatever the facts may be, our school is lagging in some areas compared with many urban schools. The foremost of all lagging areas is lack of infrastructure. That let the school down in all other areas too.
Few facts that linger our mind…
Ø In spite of having decades of success history, our school has not been designated as examination center.
Ø Even though our students are very good in academics; they are lack of practical knowledge.
No building is available to promote extracurricular activities.
Ø English language lab is not available.
Ø Proper library is not available.
Ø Good lavatory is not there.
Ø & Lot more….
Above all issues tell something in a roundabout way. That is nothing but lack of infrastructure.
Why are we talking about this now?
As you all are aware, there was a meeting held between delegates from our school and our old students at Chennai. We all got down into the nitty-gritty once the meeting started.
Few Highlights from the meeting
Ø Many old students shared their views and insisted the importance of giving new lease of life to our school.
Ø Our school correspondent talked about the lack of fund to fulfill the urgent need of building a lab. He added that there are no single movers and shakers to fund for the entire project.
Ø Other teachers emphasized of how quickly the lab needs to be built. They told that old students should have their heart set on building up the facility and should provide the contribution. After all, every little penny will grow leaps and pounds.
What is the message for me?
Our current correspondent looks like a ray of sun shine. He assured that the money collected for this purpose will be used quickly as possible to build up the facility. To suffice this, a joint account has been opened exclusively for the purpose of old boys to donate.
There are many issues we may put forth. But they are low on the totem pole compared to this issue. The situation is like a stake on the thin ice. If it is failed to get fulfilled, our school will lose its recognition. Our old boys gathered on that day made all right noises. It seemed as if it was just a matter of time to build up the facility.
The ball is in our court. This is high time for us to act. We should take this message to all the old students passed out of the school so far and make them to understand the situation, ask them to join our school group and make them to donate.
Request from the Editor:
Please don’t read this as another forward message or don’t ignore this. It is proud for us to give our hand when our school is in crisis. Let’s make our contribution and give new life to the school!
God bless your family! May god bless all your endeavors!
