hi!!
my name is Sophie and I am an aspiring artist/ grade 11 student at sacred heart, your paintings really impressed me and i got extremely excited about the assignment given to us by ms Capelet. Unfortunately, this task has been a lot harder than i thought. I am a huuuggee perfectionist and I am having a difficult time allowing my imagination to run wild. I've looked at over 20 pieces of wood and havn't been able to find the right one for me. NONE of them are speaking to me!!!  How do you see sooo many amazing shapes and creations from one piece of wood? what could i do to allow myself to expand my sense of imagination?
thank you for your time!!
Sophie.

Hi Sophie,
I am happy to see...that you are my very first victim on this
forum...hehehe. Well I'm so glad it works. Anyway, to answer your
question, all the images are not always immediatly self evident...and
there are no hard and fast rules as art is not rule oriented but
rather break all the rules and make your own. In other words, what
ever works for you; mistakes are quite often the best things that
happen and if you don't like something, just sand it off. In other
words, relax. There are no mistakes, only learning from them. Turn
the wood around, every direction and stand back and look and wait,
both sides. Something will emerge, depending on the type of wood.
Shop at Home Depot in the isles, where you can pull out 2x2's and if
that's too big, get them to cut it. They have birch, oak, spruce and
fir usually as well as other kinds. You'll find more on a smaller
piece of Fir or Spruce before Birch or Oak usually. Nothing is
written on stone...lol. Also remember, as you paint, more images
appear, so just go with the flow...
And good luck,
LauraLee
