As far as your second question as to what to put into the water, well
I would think; a Boat...lol But not a speed boat cause those are
bad. ;) A canoe, or lilly pads, or reeds, or fish showing up
transparently at the surface. All up to you...these are just some
ideas to inspire you by. The trick is to see it first in your minds
eye before you start painting and then don’t forget to wash in the
reflection into the water and know where your light source is at all
times, and follow that line into shadow. Imagine it already there.

Mike responds to his original topic I've posted:
Thank you for the advice, I have gone over a few of the minor details
like the water and some of the grain problems that have occured. I am
going to use the idea of lilypads from the knots of my wood in the
water. Along with this, I have changed around the colour scheme to
give a deeper meaning, instead of just pure water, I am creating murky
water.

Mike response:
Hello Ms. Harris,

I've finished my painting, along with my poem and artist's statement
to go along with it, and I have you to thank. With your ideas and tips
I was able to find those finishing touches to create one of my
favourite works of art to date. I am looking forward to meeting you in
a few weeks, and maybe to share my work with you. I hope to be able to
create more wonderful works in the future, and maybe trying to perfect
my techniques on wood as well.

Thank you very much for all your help,

Mike
