Hello my name is Vanesa, nice to meet you. I love your unique style
and how your work is so spiritual. I was just wondering, does the
subject matter in your paintings reflect something in your life, like
are the faces in your paintings similar to people that you know or are
they entirely created from the grains in the wood? Thank you for your
insight.

Hi Vanesa,
It's nice to meet you as well. Thank you for your good words. The subject
matter in my work are subconscious responses to the spirit of the wood
grains created during its growth. The faces are partially from the wood and
partially from my mind. I think in some cases my response to what I painted
has been like ancestors or family members or certain people who have a huge
impact on my life. They are sometimes representative of spirits but mostly
they are my response to what I have painted and later retraced the journey
of understanding my culture as sometimes I discover the stories and images
are linked together to the stories of my culture or my past and I retrace
them back, retracing the grains, like a journey of where I've been to where
I'm going: relearning my culture from the Creation of a tree, from how life
is given.
Hope this answers your question,
LauraLee.
