SACP to hold a Central Committee plenary, invites the media to cover the post-meeting press conference to communicate key outcomes.
The South African Communist Party (SACP) invites the media to a press briefing, where the General Secretary Solly Mapaila will lead the National Office Bearers to communicate the key outcomes of the Party’s Central Committee plenary.
Details of the press briefing are as follows.
Date: Sunday, 8 October 2023
Time: 13h00
Venue: COSATU House, 110 Jorissen Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg
The Central Committee is the highest decision-making body of the SACP in between its national congresses. It holds three ordinary plenaries per year. Its second plenary for 2023 will take place from Friday to Sunday.
The meeting comes within a week after the SACP launched its Red October Campaign of the year, with the objective of tackling the cost-of-living crisis and austerity.
The SACP Central Committee plenary will receive and discuss a Secretariat Political Report, among others. To be presented by Mapaila, the report will assess the conditions of the workers and poor within the perspective of the Red October Campaign 2023 objectives. It will examine the state of the working-class and its organisation given the challenges at hand. The report will critique the government’s fiscal policy, with a broader macro policy perspective, focusing on South Africa’s principal economic and social development problems. Finally, it will evaluate the Alliance and the 2024 election processes, among others.
