SACP supports Numsa protest against US military aggression in Venezuela
Tuesday, 13 January 2026:- The South African Communist Party (SACP) sends its words of support and encouragement to the National Union of Metal workers of South Africa (Numsa) as it prepares to march in protest at the US Consulate in Johannesburg on 24 January 2026 against the military intervention of the US in Venezuela and the illegal abduction of President Maduro. As the SACP, having embarked on a march for the same cause in Pretoria recently, we share the same sentiments with Numsa relating to the actions of the US government in Venezuela.
Details of the protest are as follows:
Date: 24 January 2026
Time: 09h00
Venue: Sandton Park, Johannesburg
At the foundation of the activities of the US government is the desperation of an empire clutching at straws to remain standing and protect its dominance in an international environment that is increasingly hostile to its agenda and unsuitable to its sustainability, resulting in its new urge for increased militarism as the last and only frontier for its validity. The current consolidation of a multipolar world occurs despite the wishes of the US, which places the alliance of imperialist powers in the north facing conditions of crisis, especially as the US plays a more unpredictable role in the global political system.
Revolutionaries therefore are required to maintain a struggle against imperialism and build a southern alternative to imperialism as we know it. This march represents a lever in the wheel of anti-imperialist struggles, and as the SACP we pledge our participation and solidarity with Numsa in this regard. We condemn the violent attack of Venezuela by the US regime just as we condemn the continued interference in Venezuelan national affairs.
