SACP statement on continued attacks on Lebanon

Thursday, 9 April 2026:- The US regime’s partner in war, apartheid Israel, on 8 April 2026, following the agreement of a ceasefire between Iran and the US, carried out the most aggressive bombardment of Lebanon in recent times, killing over 250 people in a single strike. The strike also injured 1,165 people.

Israel’s bombardments also killed journalists covering the war in both Iran and Lebanon.

This act of violence can only be interpreted as Israel’s attempt to undermine the ceasefire and all peace prospects. Israel intends to maintain the war and conditions for war so as to undermine all peace efforts in pursuit of its agenda to dominate the greater West Asia and implement a takeover of certain states as part of putting into effect its strategy to consolidate the so-called “greater Israel” project as the most far-reaching of its political goals.

This Israeli agenda manifests in Israel’s dedication to undermining the sovereignty of the states that surround it, from Yemen to Lebanon, to Palestine and so on. The war against Iran constitutes part of this strategy, and any actions to quash the war go in direct conflict with Israel’s strategic aims. This is regardless of the interests of the Trump administration. In this context, Israel is taking greater ownership of the war than the Trump administration, for its interests in the war are immediate and significant for the future it imagines for itself as the standalone imperialist power in the region with an unending expansionist agenda.

As the SACP, we condemn the apartheid Israeli regime’s actions as not only detrimental to peace efforts at the present time but also as a new avenue for military action in furtherance of its new genocidal agenda. We condemn the continued US-Israel imperialist collaboration in the Middle East region and reject with the contempt it deserves the agenda to undermine the sovereignty of states in the Middle East in service to contemporary expressions of Western imperialism.
