Statement on ANC 114th anniversary
Friday, 9 January 2026:- The SACP congratulates the African National Congress (ANC) on its 114 years of existence and struggle. The ANC is the oldest national liberation movement in Africa, a feat whose value cannot be overstated.
Over the years of its existence, the ANC has not only shaped the politics of South Africa but has also influenced the politics of the region and the continent as a whole. As a prominent political organisation, the ANC continues to exert significant influence on policy and discourse.
Our alliance with the ANC has been strengthened over decades of shared struggles and remains the most important political relationship to date. Our shared vision for comprehensive change is reinforced by a shared membership. The national democratic revolution requires a strong national liberation movement as much as it does a strong vanguard party of the working class. As long as the goals of the NDR remain unfulfilled, the common struggles between the components of the Alliance remain an objective necessity. To this end, we congratulate the ANC on its birthday as a committed alliance partner resolute in defending the Alliance and its political programme.
