SACP congratulates Junior Springboks squad for winning the Junior Rugby World Championship 2026
Sunday, 19 July 2026: The South African Communist Party (SACP) congratulates the South African national Under-20 rugby squad for winning the Rugby World Championship 2026. The Junior Springboks attained the title after beating France 16-5 in the final in Georgia on Saturday and secured back-to-back titles for the first time ever.
Their victory in the final means South Africa has now won 11 consecutive matches on the Junior World Championship stage and become the fourth team to go back-to-back after New Zealand, England and France. They now have three titles in the prestigious age-grade tournament.
The SACP calls for the continuous development of rugby in our townships and rural areas, where a majority of the working class is often left behind and thus unable to play the game. We also call for the government and all sports associations to expedite the transformation agenda, particularly in rugby and cricket, in order to redress the imbalances that continue to plague our country.
