We are delighted to inform you that our Scholarship Program is now ready to be implemented.
Following a couple of months of rigorous promotion among our membership, which involved two fundraiser events, we have been able to raise enough funds to sustain a student for a period of six to seven years. Given the success we have had so far, our plan is to introduce a second student next year as well.
For ease of implementation, and to maintain transparency, we have prepared a Policy Document (see attached) which outlines the framework of our program.
We have also selected our first recipient, Sadurshan, upon recommendations from Fr Principal and the Student Counsellor. Please read the brief introduction on this smart young boy who we would hope will be motivated by our support, to do his absolute best and in the process bring credit to himself, his family, his school and to his country.
We expect the inaugural payment to be made at the start of the next school term, which would be the third and last term for 2014. As outlined in our Policy Document, payment for the remaining years will be made in three instalments per year. Our former President, Gordon Cooray, on behalf of AusCey Financial Services has kindly offered to waive any transfer fees pertaining to these periodic payments.
It is gratifying to note that the de Alwis Foundation has come on board to support our initiative, and award a scholarship to a second student this year. I am sure there are others waiting to follow suit.
