CTC's Buckingham Canal Marathon, Oct 7th

We invite all to participate in CTC's first Marathon. [Wikipedia] The marathon is a long-distance running event with an official distance of 42.195 kilometres (26 miles and 385 yards),[1] that is usually run as a road race. The event was instituted in commemoration of the fabled run of the Greek soldier Pheidippides, a messenger from the Battle of Marathon (the namesake of the race) to Athens.

An athlete competes in the Men's Marathon at Vijay Chowk during day eleven of the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games on October 14, 2010 in Delhi, India.
The marathon was one of the original modern Olympic events in 1896, though the distance did not become standardized until 1921. More than 500 marathons are held throughout the world each year, with the vast majority of competitors being recreational athletes [CTC] CTC is organizing it's first 5km, 10km run, half marathon and full marathon on Sunday morning October 7th along the scenic Buckingham Canal just South of Chennai city. We welcome anyone to participate and spread awareness on running.
All 4 distances will start near the crossing of the ECR link road (Sholinganallur-ECR connecting road) and the Buckingham Canal. 5km run - 6:30am 10km run - 6am Hal Marathon - 5:30am Full Marathon - 5am Participants will assemble in 4 points across the city (see below) and share own transportation to travel to the venue and back. Timings at the respective assembly points will based on the chosen running distance and communicated in the prep email.
Participants are welcome to bring along their friends and relatives for the event. Please mention the same in the "Comments" section below. Registration fees - 100Rs (refreshments & snacks) [Media & Sponsors] We are looking for media partners and event sponsors (refreshments, t-shirts, caps, medals...). Looks like the running virus has gone wild... 400 people signed up for CTC's first ever Marathon along the scenic Buckingham Canal on Sunday morning Oct 7th. What are you still waiting for? Sign up now

We have 31 hard-core runners attempting the full 42km marathon. Largest interest is shown in the 21km half marathon - 137 runners. 121 members are taking up the 10km challenge and 77 are going for the 5K run. Close to 40 children have signed up for the kids run of either 2km, 1km or 500m.

We have designed a beautiful medal for all participants who complete their run successfully - gold for the half and full marathon, silver for the 10K, bronze for the 5K and kids run.
