Most of you would have read or heard about the Irulas @Chenneri, Chengalpattu , the dastardly n sickening act of a conman leaving most of the families in the reserve forest penniless. The Irulas are indigenous tribal folk spread across the state of Tamil Nadu. Little was known about them until Romulus Whitaker, the “Snake man of India”, chose to work with the tribe to help study and conserve reptiles in India. The founder of Snake Park in Chennai infact created a steady livelihood for these simple and fun loving people.

Our bonding with these local conservationists from Crocodile Bank has always been a special one till date.
Back then in 2015, the floods wreaked havoc and our team was there to help them with blankets, food n medicines. With the breeding season of snakes closing in, the Irulas are not allowed to catch snakes for venom extraction , leaving them with little or no job at all if calls for rescue of snakes don’t come in .
Thanks to CoVid19, these folks have no way to feed their families.
This is a call for arms to help with alms for the Irulas Community who work for the Croc Bank that pays them salaries thro fee collection from tourists and anti-venom sales. We have about 100 families at Chenneri who now have no means to support themselves on a day to day basis. Pls do find ways and means to support and fund this cause with whatever you can.
