Ombattu Gudde in Kannada means “Nine Hills”. It’s a group of nine peaks 1000 meters above sea level in the Kabinale Reserve Forest. The trek starts from the Gundya check-post on the Bangalore-Mangalore highway NH48, a 10 hour uphill climb through dense forest. The forest is extremely virgin with huge bamboos and dense foliage playing host to a range of wildlife from the tiger, leopard, jungle cat, barking deer to gaur, sloth bear and, of course, the wild elephant. This route is noted as one of the most mysterious routes in the Western Ghats.

Many have tried, many have failed, gotten lost in the jungle... Chennai Trekkers is planning to conquer Ombattu Gudde on the long weekend of April 10-12 along a totally new trail. OG is trekking in "CTC style" - dense jungle, virgin forest, steep uphill, clear streams, no pre-existing trail, easy to get lost, wild-life all around, navigation using topographic map and GPS. Note - this is one of Peter's favorite treks. Difficulty level is high. Only for experienced trekkers.

All,

we got 67 registrations for OG/3 so far. We are planning to rent 2x36 seat buses to transport us between Bangalore and the Kabinale reserve forest which means we can accommodate another 5 members for the unique, once-in-a-lifetime trek.

Anyone interested to join? Trust me, life will never be the same after this one...
Peter.
