CTC Swimming Camp 6-Beginers Level

Chennai Trekking Club is organizing Swimming Camp for Non-Swimmers. In future treks preference will be given to swimmers for trails along streams/pools (most of CTC treks) and non-swimmers will not be accepted without proper life jacket (which costs nearly the same as swimming classes)

Importance of swimming in trekking: - 

Understanding the maps you can be a navigator; 
Understanding the terrain you can be good trekker; 
Understanding the weather you can be a good camper; 
Understanding the fellow trekkers you can be good organiser 
But you can be a complete “trekker” only if you know how to “swim” 
Swimming makes a ‘complete trekker’.   

Trekking on the unknown terrain, crossing the widespread streams, ferrying the deep pools all the CTC activities are related to water. It is absolutely eminent therefore to know how to swim. It is not a rocket science to learn swimming it just the basic lesson one needs to know how to move one’s body against the resistance of water. 

Swimming is also an effective form of fat-burning exercise: because you can swim at your own pace, slowly if you wish, you can keep swimming for long periods, and maintaining your staying power is a vital goal in fat-burning exercise. The other big advantage is that water supports your weight and takes the stress off your joints, so you can put your body through a good workout without your knees, hips or spine paying the price.  

Set aside your laziness and learn something, which can be a guard for your life in case of an emergency. Learn swimming and become a ‘complete trekker’.
