Hi guys,

I have been watching sleeping bag discussions from few weeks. I stay in Bangalore, I could be help to trekkers regarding sleeping bags...

I have used Wildcraft sleeping bags(999rs) from shiradi range to Himalayas, Its good. Non-bulky, good stitch, good quality zips, material. Will last more than 5 years.
There is also company called Adventure works, who make equally good but little bulkier sleeping bags with higher insulation, better cover with straps costing mostly 1500rs. Those who use can comment on it.

If you insist on Adventure works/ Wildcraft sleeping bag, I can order in bulk.

Procedure:

1. One member (Leader) take initiative and collect how many bags you need.

2. Meanwhile, the price of Wildcraft sleeping bag + transport(100-150) + extra 50rs buffer to be collected by leader.

3. I will try ordering in bulk and get some discount.

4. Leader transfers the bulk order money to my account.

5. Dispatch the sleeping bag to leader/ or if anyone plans to trip chennai to bangalore can take this responsibility.

6. Whatever extra buffer money left in the budget will be sent to Leader (which later has to be dispersed with members, or give him tips :D ).

Be wild, Keep trekking

Abhijith,

Thanks for offering the help. But the problem that I foresee with ordering in bulk are as as follows...

1. The time taken for delivery. Most people think about sleeping bags only after they have signed up for a trek and therefore it is essential that delivery happens before start of the trek.

2. As you yourself have mentioned transport charges are involved and they are going to eat up a considerable amount of whatever discount that you might get (bulk order).

3. In case something goes wrong and you want to get it replaced, will the local stores where you live get it done or would you need to ship it to the place you bought? Warranty and stuff.

So unless the savings it huge in spite of transportation charges and you have enough time before your next trek, I don't see the advantage.

Just my thoughts.

Hi All,

The Quechua bag is much more compact than Wildcraft and also weights 640 gms, but wildcraft is around 1kg (correct me if i am wrong) the lesser weight helps reduce your burden in a trek.  The Quechua can be ordered thro Stalin in the below link.  Quechua costs 1380 while the wildcraft bag costs Rs. 1000
Decathon is a mummy type bag and would be snug fit, wildcraft will have space inside.

For those of you who are interested you can enroll in the below link to order for the quechua bag.

Hi Hari,

I posted this as i saw people wanting more of wildcraft sleeping for reasons like brand, clarity or feel good factor. I also saw there are no sleeping bags/out of stock stuff in chennai shops from the mail. I didnt knew about the free courier about wildcraft, as Sreeram mentioned.
So, i offered my help to restrict dropouts from trek as mentioned by you. :)

Some Clarification: Adventure Workx Low altitude cost Rs 1300 and they will give you 20% discount if tell you are from CTC and that other people have taken that kind of discount. I use the same and find it better than wild craft.

A complete list can be found here www.trekwiki.wetpaint/page/trekking+gears

There is a company in calcutta, Alpine 360 (http://www.alpine360degree.com/) which manufacturers really good product compared to bangalore companies and they are rather less costly too (though website is real bad). I use their backpack which is pretty ergonomically designed, but have not used their SB. That guy wants to spread his business in south and was looking for someone who can stock their goods in bangalore stores. I asked him if he would like to give his margin as discount and courier stuff to bangalore/chennai. He agreed. If there are 10-15 pieces ordered, he is willing to customize the products and may be even would include CTC logo. His single-layer mummy SB would cost Rs 850 (plus Rs 25 courier) which weighs around 800 gm. He has promised to get back with complete price list of products which I will later forward to the group.

The wildcraft weighs 750 gm (PFA the picture Wildcraft.png, for more information)

The Quechua can be ordered thro Stalin in the below link.  Quechua costs 1380 while the wildcraft bag costs Rs. 1000

Compare this against Quechua S15 with the link from Stalin http://www.decathlon.in/catalog/Hiking-Sleeping-Bags-S15-ULTRALIGHT-BROWN-L-p-34.html

Wildcraft LITE has a comfort rating of 20 degree and extreme rating of 15 degree. Which one would be more comfortable Wildcraft LITE or Quechua S15, assuming both are comfortable @ 15 degrees? Comments/Inputs any from users of Wildcraft and Quechua?

Wow. Hold on guys. I think this is slowly moving into the Quecha Vs
Wildcraft kind of flame war. Please refrain from doing so.
Thanks
