tips for keepnig leeches away during trek..specially OG trek:)

make a semi solid paste of Snuff (that is sniffed thr nose! ), 501 bar soap, dettol, swastik hair oil, and salt... then apply it on legs, socks and shoes:)...antileech medicine ...highly recommended by a gentle man who is one of the founders of chennai snake park and a wild life enthusiast:)

Happy trekking :)

few other solutions:
1. Pour some diesel on our legs and shoes.
2. Spray iodex/deo as and when leaches creep up (best solution so far by my experience).
3. Put some raw tobacco in your socks.

NEVER WEAR SPORTS shoes in leach infested areas as if they get inside the shoes through the nets of shoes, you wont be able to make it out and the leach will keep on sucking blood from you feet. Hunter shoes work best but chappal is also good alternative.

Nice solutions , however

1.Last time i tried the new Odomos with moisturizer and leeches were ready to attack,
at first they were afraid but started coming later on.

2.Same was the case with Deo
3. Voilini and other pain killers had no effect on leeches
4. LIME -- the most simple to carry ( needs no preparation ) had one of the best leech repellant properties, due to their acidic content. Just carry one, dig a hole and squeeze the juice on to the legs, allow to dry. Keep the remaining lime for reuse. It lasts Long, Really Long.
5. Tobacco was effective
6. I have not tried out diesel and other preparations mentioned by Indira.

It would be gr8 if the diesel also gives more power to the people and make them move faster !!!

:-)

Thanks,
Santhosh
