Raghu,

It would be great if you can provide some more details on possible treks in
Hampi.

Hi,

I have been to Hampi....
it is 350 Km from Bangalore.....

for a trekking guy...there is lot of bouldering present around hampi....
Tunga badra river flows thru Hampi.....at this time....it will be full......no rafting or other major water sport stuff available.......
if u r interested in architecture/ruins.... this is worth a visit...
actually hampi is between small hills...i could call them boulder hills.....

other than that....
Bellary district is famous for mines.....
there is a tungabadra dam in hospet(6 km from hampi)....
and hampi is fully surrounded by lush green fields....

Best Season to visit : Oct-Jan
Rent a cycle once you are there and go all around the ruins.
IMHO, not much trekking and bouldering is also not much.
Tungabhadra is there for namesake, with hardly any water in it during that season of the year.
Too many ruins around - but if u can cycle, most of them can be covered in 1-2 days.

If you are into backpacking and stuff, would suggest a week off and exploring the entire North Karnataka - it is a traveller's paradise. I loved it.

You wont need to look beyond this site..It has everything you ever need to know about Hampi.

http://www.hampi.in/

Take a print out of the maps, hire a bicycle and keep going. Its not a trekking place...but if you are photography buff or love rock climbing then this place is heaven. Also don't miss the coracle ride, you will love it.

Another suggestion would be, don't just stroll through the ruins..take some time to look at the carving..you will be amazed and the details and topics covered..Epics, stories, commerce, adages, sex ..they have everything carved. Also look out for puzzles..they are really interesting.
For example In the PuzzleQuestion.jpg(see attachment) you will see three faces, but only 4 hands and 4 legs. How is it possible??

A good plan would be
Bangalore - Hampi - Hospet - Tungabadhra dam - Badami - Pattadakal - Aihole - Koodala Sangama - Aalmatti dam - Bangalore

Note that 350Km from Bangalore means 8 hours by bus + another 6 hours from Chennai to reach Bangalore which brings it to 14 hours one-way or 28 hours travel two-way. This is quite long for an architectural visit.

My home town is just 60Kms from Hampi.
i will take care of all the things if everybody is ok with it.

we have two ways to reach Hampi,
madras to gooty - 5pm to 1am
gooty to hospet - 4 am to 7 am
hospet to hampi - 7 am to 8:30 am

madras to bangalore - 3:30pm to 9:30pm
bangalore to hospet - 10 am to 7 am
hospet to hampi - 7 am to 8:30 am

madras to guntakal - 11pm to 9am
guntakal to hospet - 11:30 am to 2 pm
hospet to hampi - 2 pm to 3:30 pm

Third one is not advisable

we can start our trek immediately from there.

Rather to call it as TREK i can say this as a trip to HISTORIC place. And if the sun is hot we cant do anything since it will be total rocky open area. you can find Hampi in the center of the all mountains. Only better thing is you will be on the bank of TungaBhadra River.

Thanks,
MMS.
