Theosophical Society Gardens,one of the centuries old Green Cover Heritage symbol of Madras which is also known as the "Huddleston Gardens",lies on the south bank of the Adyar River covering 260 acres. This Eco-Green Hub has migratory birds,fruit bats, snakes, jackals, wild cats, mongooses, hares, and a variety of spiders. It is also the place for variety species of trees including the rare mahogany and other trees from across the globe. The garden also has a 450-year-old banyan tree, known locally as Adyar Aala Maram, whose aerial roots cover some 60,000 sq m.
Chennai Trekking Club joins hands with
Theosophical Society to clean-up the garbage accumulated along the Adyar River Banks due to December floods inside this heritage symbol and to restore the beautiful green cover oxygen center of namma Madras. Inviting you to be part of this ongoing initiative for every Wednesday and Friday mornings and provide your meaningful contribution towards a Societal and Environmental Cause.
We had 370+ volunteers including kids participating in the past week's clean-up efforts (Phase 1 & 2) which resulted in collection of 2 full truck loads of garbage. This weekday cleanup will continue for the upcoming weeks until we restore this Green Jewel of Chennai into its pristine form. What are you waiting for?
