Mission Save Tada/2 - Aug 8

TADA - Mysterious location, with beautiful scenery, pristine waters, crystal clear pools, fresh flowing streams, breathtaking views and the gorgeous Tada waterfalls - this is how Tada was described a few years ago, all this is already becoming history now.

A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO, THIS WAS TADA:

Today Tada is described as a place filled with garbage, liquor bottles, broken glass pieces, plastic covers, plates, plastic water bottles, rappers of biscuits, assorted snacks, aluminium foils, metal caps, clothes, footwear..... and what not? - It is also home to those anti-social elements who drink there and cause harm not only to the general public but also to the peaceful trekkers either directly or indirectly.

THIS IS HOW THE PLACE LOOKS LIKE NOW:

Its high time we acted upon this; We as trekkers and nature enthusiasts share a common goal of protecting nature. Yet we have not managed to do much about the anti-social activities happening out there in the name of the so called "Eco-Tourism". Absolutely no rules are being followed in this place, no one ever bothers to check if the rules are being obeyed, plastic wastes are scattered everywhere - yet not a sign of dust bins

The pictures above open the doors to reality, it appears as if mother nature is desperately crying for help. If left unnoticed, the whole place would die out eventually. Friends, lets come together on this date, to help save mother nature before it reaches a point of no return; lets take up the responsibility and clean up this place apart from our usual fun filled trek; lets measure the waste extracted and let the officers know what has happened to a beautiful place in just a few years and document it. This would at least help reduce by a great extent, if not prevent, the use of plastics and littering around; this will make the authorities enforce basic rules that will preserve the beauty for ages to come. So that we can continue our passion and create a safe green home for mother nature.

To show its concern for Tada, CTC along with the help of media dhas decided to take up the clean-up operation under its flag. Friends, and to all those who love nature, come, be a part of this wonderful and responsible trek. Its time to show your part in conserving nature and exposing the corrupt.

Looks like CTC's out to make history again! Within 36 hours we had 50 registrations already for Mission Save Tada

What’s happening right now?

There’s much being planned for this huge event.  We are looking at 500+ volunteers for this event and building up the skeleton to manage an operation of this scale!

https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&ik=e13ef32d63&view=att&th=129b1b6d0af476bb&attid=0.2&disp=inline&realattid=f_gbdh5psf1&zw

Our official poster and invite letter are ready! ( PFA with this email )

People have already started volunteering for various activities. If you have volunteered for any activities we will be getting in touch soon!

To give an idea, here are some things up ahead for us:

Ø  Create a buzz in media – online, print & visual

Ø  Identify teams, zones & leads. Add some creative team play

Ø  Find sponsors

Ø  Invite forest officials

Ø  Arrange transport, food

Pitching in your penny!

Wanna know how you can pitch in? Here are some pointers ;)

1. Join the mission!

Sign up at the form below to give your 'Aye' for presence at the event!

2. Find us a sponsor!

At the end of every event, it is always nice to carry some memorabilia of the noble work that we do. We are looking for sponsors for caps, t-shirts, gloves, hoarding, posters!

3. Give us your suggestions!

Volunteers are also welcome to give their suggestions and reach out to us through the various forums we have created.

Sign up at our facebook event to join in on discussions and sync with other volunteers:

We also have a discussion sub-forum at our Nabble forum :

Do also check out our blog for regular updates on Save Tada/2 activity:

http://www.chennaitrekkers.org/2010/07/mission-save-tada2-aug-8-2010.html

4. Spread the word!

  http://worddreams.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/spread-the-word1.jpg

More the participation, better the success! We need your help in spreading the word.

Ø  Pass on the invite to your friends, family, neighbours and any groups you are in touch with – and encourage them to do so too. Update your facebook / orkut / buzz status to Mission Save Tada!

Ø  Let us know if you have contacts for online / print / visual media. We do have a big media contact list from our previous Tada & Coastal Cleanup Campaigns but if there are new forums we can reach out, do let us know.

Ø  Looking for support / participation from college students(free of cost). Do take this up with any colleges that you are in touch with.

Ø  Looking for support from well know public personalities / celebrities / VIP’s. Let us know if any of you can give us contacts for these. No doubt, this can widen the reach for our message.

We have created a write-up and poster which you can use for passing on the message to individuals and groups. PFA with this email – InviteWriteup & SaveTada2

120 volunteers have signed for mission Save Tada/2 - a small army of passionate souls is slowly growing to take on the battle in the lands of Tada. Supported by a major media campaign the battle will send a strong message throughout our community to raise the level of environmental awareness.

Calling out for more volunteers who strongly believe we should preserve the natural beauty of this planet for future generations. Bring along your family, friends, colleagues, talk to schools, your company. The more souls participate, the more energy will flow.

We are in the process of forming 15 garbage busting battalions deployed along 15 zones in the Tada stream lead by 15 CTC field commanders. 3 weeks to go before the largest battle in recent times...

Wow! Just 4 days to go and a 300+ member army will restore Tada's pristine beauty. Where are our other members? Sign up here. Bring along your family, office colleagues and friends for an enjoyable day - combination of trek, cleanup, awareness and awesome dips in the crystal clear Tada pools near the end of the valley.

Our main event partner and sponsor SriCity will be providing t-shirts and caps for all volunteers. They will also be sponsoring the food, banners, posters, hoardings.

Times of India will cover our cleanup drive on Saturday and Doordarshan has agreed to broadcast our mission after the cleanup. As usual channel uFX will be covering us in their unique style.

Aravind and his Ham Radio team will be coordinating the 15 teams during the actual cleanup across the field.

We will be sending a detailed prep email to all participants tomorrow with the exact agenda and schedule for Sunday. We will also contact some of the volunteers for the many specific coordination tasks on Sunday. Stay tuned.

Peter.

CTC Rocks! Registrations are still flowing in constantly. Another 25 volunteers signed up in the last 24 hours... The eco-army keeps growing at an amazing pace! Keep talking to your friends, colleagues and do bring along your family members. Ensure everyone is registered so we can keep track of the headcount for logistics. A prep email has been sent to all current registered participants.

Please update your status on Facebook, Orkut, Twitter and request your friends to sign up at www.ChennaiTrekkers.org. Publish our Save Tada poster in online forums, mailers and groups.

2 days ago I met the 40 school students (9-11 standard) who are joining us and they are all excited to get out of the classroom on Sunday. It's great to see the young generation clean up the mess created by us adults....  Just wish we had more youngsters joining for this immense team and awareness effort. It's the young generation who will decide on the future preservation of our natural inheritance.

The current CTC generation is still lucky to explore lush green jungles and dive in crystal clear water streams but what about our children or grand children? Will there be any virgin forests left if we keep polluting and encroaching at the current rate? Don't we have responsibility to expose, create awareness and preserve nature for generations to come?
