Negotiating Points/Adding Members

I highly recommend serious consideration of adding members beyond the
060 unit. UPE is one of the county's most powerful (if not the most
powerful) unions because of the size of its membership. While working
closely with management and being under their umbrella is very good as
far as I can see, a larger size for this non-management unit would
have more clout at the bargaining table.

As to benefits, I can show everyone a table and numbers proving that
the county could save millions of dollars by offering pre-tax
voluntary benefits (such as cancer and other supplemental insurances)
and doing a much better job communicating the benefits of its high
deductible plans. These actions could directly help employees as well
as save dozens of jobs over time.

I, too, would be happy to donate some off-work time to this venture.
