Hello everyone,
I have been asked what the next steps are for SCAPA.
The next steps are to poll the membership about a few things.
• First is coming to a consensus.
To come to a consensus on anything, via a vote, I need to know first
whether you feel the need to hold a meeting or can I send out and post
to the website a survey on your opinions on the matter at hand?
I would like your input on this and the following issues.
• Second is Dues.
How much do we want to have deducted from our income on a bi-weekly
basis. I have mentioned between $10 and $15 per paycheck in
discussions previously. I still think this is an appropriate range.
The County has agreed to start voluntary dues deductions before a
contract has been signed. It will become mandatory once a contract is
signed. It will also become mandatory for Fair Share fees to be
collected once the contract is signed. Right now we need to vote to
decide how much will be deducted and subsequently to have each of us
sign the paperwork to have this process start. The more we decided to
withhold now will make it less likely we will have to ask for more
later.
• Third is Board Membership
We need to find a replacement for our Secretary.
If you are interested in becoming part of the Board please let me know
by submitting some personal background info. Please include your
name, position title, department, work location, whether or not you
supervise staff and if so what their position titles are and their rep
unit if known, a statement why you want to take over the role of
Secretary and a description of you work history or qualifications for
this position. Please keep in mind that Board positions put you on
the negotiations team and will be called upon to represent SCAPA at
meetings frequently.
• Fourth is membership
If you are not yet a member of SCAPA please complete and return the
membership form. Donations are still accepted. Please consult your
tax advisor to confirm the write-off status of your donation and/or
future dues deductions.
Also if you are interested in working on our website or by-laws
committees please let me know; please include a description of your
qualifications or reason for interest.
