Sorry for the bad news, but I have to go out of town this Friday and I
was not able to get another staff member to sign on as co-adviser.
Alex May from the math department would like to take the job, but he
now has a schedule conflict on Fridays, so we won't be able to get him
until fall.
On a positive note, we will be getting a second coach. Benjamin Korn
from Davis Fencing Academy will be joining us as a volunteer coach. He
has a great program for bringing up new fencers as well as adding
skills for those with more experience. I think we will all benefit
from the addition of new ideas and perspectives he will bring. He will
be coming to our practice on the 27th, so be prepared to start at 1:00
with a good workout.
Another reason to come on the 27th is that we should finally be
getting the club order! The business office approved the PO and faxed
it to Absolute Fencing today. It typically take orders a week to ship,
so everything should be in by our next meeting.
Also, let me remind you we have the room on Saturday the 28th from 1
to 4 pm for some additional practice and to demonstrate fencing to my
son's cub scout den.
Lastly, let me congratulate our fencers who competed in the Davis
tournament last weekend. I especially want to applaud our novices who
came home with a silver and a bronze medal (although I have no idea
who won what because no one has bothered to tell me). SCC Fencing is
keeping the tradition of strong novice fencing alive and well.
