OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. —
A medical examiner on Friday told jurors how difficult it was
trying to determine the cause of death for an Osceola County
mother, who her estranged husband and his father are accused of
killing.

Prosecutors called the medical examiner who performed an autopsy
on Nicole Montalvo's remains.

She testified that she received less than half of her body,
which investigators said was dismembered by Christopher Otero
Rivera and Angel Rivera. They said it was then burned and buried
on their Saint Cloud property.

Because of that, the medical examiner said determining the exact
manner of death was impossible.

"There were a lot of little small fragments of the bones, almost
like the bones had been put through some kind of wood chipper or
something. They were just fragmented," the medical examiner
testified.

She eventually labeled the cause of death was homicidal violence
by unspecified means.

The Rivera's are both charged with second-degree murder.
