Sorry, the group settings needed to be changed, so that messages com to whole group and not sender. Have updated now.

Point taken, @priyadars...@gmail.com .

Was wondering if a common disability etiquette / training SOP would be a good idea, instead of standalone ones for aviation alone.

Hi All,

Promoting the use of sunflower lanyard, pins or wrist bands so that individuals with hidden disability can be identified. It is acceptable at Delhi airport. I am not very sure about people's awareness  about the same.

This would particularly help when individuals with hidden disability are trying to use accessible means, like researched seats, lifts, toilets.

Sunflower lanyard is widely used in United kingdom.

A suggestion.

Kind regards,
Priyadarshini

Hi All,

Sharing a few inputs on accessibility related to the railways. I shall similarly be sharing inputs regarding roadways and airports in the coming days.

  • The height of a platform with a railway coach featuring an accessible entrance so that the platform height is designed to align closely with the coach's floor level.
  • Mandatory inclusion of elevators and ramps with signages.
  • Availability of wheelchairs and attendants.
  • Proper signages to indicate entrance, exit, nearest car park, bus station, restroom.
  • Waiting room for access of wheelchair passengers.
  • Proper tactile pathways along each platform.
  • Ticket counters and information desks at a height compatible with wheelchairs with unobstructed floor space in front of the counter to allow wheelchair manoeuvring.
  • Clean accessible washrooms/family washrooms.
  • Information display boards at every platform with up to date information of train delays, arrivals and departure.

Perhaps, it would also be good to also deliberate upon evacuation measures for every class of transportation in cases of emergency for passengers with disabilities.

I was also thinking if in addition to having an SOP, we can also account for an app, especially for railways, airports and bus stand for persons with disabilities. The app can give the number of wheelchairs available at every station/airport along with the availability of facilities like waiting rooms, washrooms, etc. along with their locations and other details on arrivals/departures.

Thanks,

Arushi
