In the 2 months since its formation, the thematic group focussing on transport accessibility has engaged in discussions (on existing challenges, lived experience and policy inputs) on the public-facing egroup, deep dived into research and debated working drafts submitted to MoRTH, RailMin and MoCA in an online meeting. Information capture of available accessibility features in stations and airports across the country is underway with the ministries, but formal feedback on the working drafts is still awaited.
The attached accessibility framework that flags the non-negotiable elements vis a vis recommended and aspirational aspects of the transport eco-system has been completed and the matrix conversion into rule ready language is underway as is cross-linking with other groups rules, especially built environment, ICT and services.
The challenge that lies ahead of the group currently is that unlike the mature and tested standards for built environment and ICT, the minimum transport accessibility standards also necessitate cross-referencing provisions that are either existing in other ministry documents but omitted in Rule 15 guidelines or occasionally best practices in safety that are not currently not specifically addressed by existing standards / guidelines.
