Hello, recently my iPhone 8 Plus has become so badly broken that it has been rendered unusable. The buttons work and the screen turns on, so I'm trying to make it enter recovery mode so I can erase it. However, when I attempt to do what is prompted on If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support, it doesn't work and it results in my phone just being powered off.
Unfortunately, getting the iPhone into Recovery Mode can require the user to use a great deal of finesse. If you are unable to get it into Recovery Mode, and have tried it a few times, you are probably going to need to bring it to the nearest Apple Store for help. Can you not get the device to be recognized by iTunes, so you can use the Restore button in iTunes?
I need to put my iPhone 8 into recovery mode but every time I follow the instructions pressing vol up, vol down then holding down side button it comes up with slide to power off screen. Am I doing something wrong?
I've been on the iOS 11 Developer Beta for about two weeks now. This morning I decided that I was going to downgrade back to iOS 10. Followed all of the instructions and in a few minutes, my device was being "updated" back to iOS 10.3.2. This is where everything went wrong.
I leave the phone and come back about 20 minutes later to see iTunes says that my phone is in recovery mode and needs to be updated or restored. I click on "Update" and it fails and says it needs to be restored. So this time I click on restore, it goes through the whole process and iTunes says that my phone has been restored and it is currently restarting. However, as soon as it restarts I get the same damn prompt again telling me I need to restore or update.
I do this about 4-5 times with no luck. So next I decide it's time to put the device into DFU mode. Even when my phone is in DFU and I try to restore it to the most recent iOS 10 update I am getting the same problem. iPhone restarts and says I need to connect to iTunes and it's in recovery mode.
I would avoid DFU for figuring out what is wrong - it's kind of a last ditch effort to revive a device without a lot of diagnostics or error reporting. Since Apple restricts who can receive betas and asks them to communicate with users on the various seed and beta discussion groups - many people here will decline to engage on beta discussions so you might get better answers on Apple's forums devoted to the beta programs.
That operation is designed to log error conditions, statistics, reasons and many items to log files. From there you would benefit from being able to reach out to Apple support and also have a large audience with experience in restore errors. It could be an unlikely hardware failure or a likely firmware issue where you are now committed to running the beta pending some changes to the software either on the iTunes side or on the iOS side to allow you to go backwards in code version.
If other people have this issue, I would suggest asking a new question with specific details like - what version of iTunes and what OS (Mac or windows) and what specific error message you get before you try DFU. As you have acknowledged in the post - recovering from DFU failure is usually with Apple Certified technicians and/ or hardware replacement assuming your PC/Mac and iTunes isn't the cause of the restore issue.
I'm posting this here as well since this question is receiving a lot of views. It seems like it is still possible to downgrade from iOS 11 Beta 2 to iOS 10.3.2 but it's not as simple as just restoring the iOS 10.3.2 .ipsw because that is what's causing the recovery loop.
Solved by pushing it out of Recovery mode cycle by using ReiBoot ( ). I am sure there are some other apps that can do this too. It's very simple to do, I just installed it, run it, plug the iPhone in computer via USB. It detects the iPhone, offers a "push out of recovery mode" button of sort. Click the button and voila!
Ever since I've had the phone I've had issues with it. On the outside its perfect, no scratches or defects at all but I think there's something very wrong with the operating system or something internally within the phone.
When I first had it, it would restart randomly. Early hours of one morning I was awoken to the screen constantly lighting up turns out it was restarting over and over again, then another morning in the early hours the notification sound was constantly pinging and it was in a crashed state, I had to force turn it off.
Apps will constantly crash and it trys to tell me to put them into a deep sleep. These have included Natwest, TUI, Outlook, Google Services, Samsung Keyboard, Twitch....all kinds of apps honestly and to maybe get them to work I had to restart the phone.
Anyway I got so fed up of it constantly crashing, restarting every single night, apps not working I sent it back to Music Magpie for them to have a look. I sent them a load of screenshots and videos to show them what my phone was doing and they came back and said they couldn't find anything wrong with the phone.
So it's been sent back to me and this time I have set up the phone without using smart switch just in case that was causing an issue. I've added all apps manually and although its a lot better than it was, it does still go on a wobble, not as much as before, but it's still annoying. For instance yesterday I had to restart as the keyboard stopped working, today it said authenticator stopped working so I couldn't open outlook.
So I thought I'd try clearing the data partition to see if that worked (this time!, I tried when I first had the phone and it did nothing). Anyway I've done as instructed by other community members, powered it down, connected it to my laptop and pressed the volume buttons and power button together but instead of the screen I had before coming up, this has instead.
So my question is, why isn't the recovery screen coming up and what can I do? I am so annoyed with Music Magpie as they have literally been no help at all and I feel like I've got an expensive new phone which is faulty and not fit for purpose when apps don't work or the keyboard stops working.
Sorry should just show for ease, these are the kinds of notifications that pop up when apps don't work. These are not the only occasions and there have been many more. I also have videos of the issues.
Clear Cache Files from the phone's System Partition Section > -devices/how-do-i-clear-the-cache-on-my-device/ You may need to insert your earphones or hook upto a powered On Laptop or use a Tv's USB Port to access the Clear Partition Section. This may help with lag or stutters as this clears the phone of old/unused or broken cache files. There is also a Repair Apps option in the Menu System too.
Thank you for the response. Turns out having a phone cover on doesn't help with getting into recovery mode. I have cleared the partition and repaired apps just in case and hoping this is a fix. But just to confirm, this is the about info, honestly this means absolutely nothing to me.
I appreciate my partner got me essentially a 'second hand' phone but he still paid a lot for it and it should still be fit for purpose. He just wanted me to have a better phone than I had without paying out the ears for it and trying to save a bit. We learn from our mistakes.
I have recently gotten a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus (Wifi only). I am attempting to boot it into recovery mode for the sake of rooting the device, but it is not working as anticipated. When I start the device by holding down power + vol down I see the warning screen that prompts me to press volume up to "continue", or volume down to "cancel (restart tablet)". When I press volume up, it goes to the Odin Mode screen, showing the green android robot, and the words "Downloading... Do not turn off target!!". It remains that way indefinately until I hold down the power button to turn it off. Kies is installed on my PC, and I have tried to reboot it into recovery both with it plugged in to the PC and without. If it is plugged in to the PC while it is stuck at "downloading", eventually a popup appears in Kies stating "Device not responding. To resolve the issue reboot the device." Does anyone see something I am doing wrong? Thank you very much for any help!
Well, I will answer to help anyone else. I still cannot get to recovery with only the device, but I was able to reboot into recovery and successfully root the device by using "adb reboot recovery" from the command line on my PC while the Galaxy Tab was attached to USB.
Important: Putting your iPhone into recovery mode may also factory reset it, meaning that all of its data will be erased and you'll have to set it up again afterwards. As such, treat recovery mode as a last resort.
When I found a non-working UniFi Cloud Key Gen2 Plus on eBay for 99 cents, I decided, why not? (This was before I heard that UniFi Network App 7.3 would drop support for the now-vintage first-generation Cloud Key.)
The Cloud Key Gen2 would be sitting inside a closet, so I wasn't too concerned that this thing had been physically damaged, cracked and dented, and sold without the internal hard drive. Fortunately, it arrived and looked better than I expected.
To continue disassembly, we will need to remove the hard drive and the latch itself. Slide the latch over to remove the hard drive and the tray. Then, use the end of a flat-head screwdriver or metal spudger, gently press on one of the tabs to pop it loose. Hold the metal slider in position, then carefully remove the plastic tab.
Now, we need to remove two screws underneath the screen. The screen is held on by adhesive, like everything else these days. Use a spudger or plastic opening tool to carefully pry it up. Note that there is an unremovable ribbon cable on the bottom edge. Take care not to sever it. (Ubiquiti does not sell spare parts. I've tried.)
Next, the 13-pin connector for the Cloud Key Gen2 Rack Mount Accessory needs to be removed. There are four latches on the underside to make sure that it sits flush. This also means that removing it is next to impossible. You can try to carefully pry it up, but I had luck pushing it up from underneath. If you try that, be sure to push up on the plastic, and not on the wires themselves!
