Tony Vega & Ray De La Paz headline Festival de la Isla
Northern California's Largest Salsa Music & Dance Festival

Vacaville, CA - The Annual Festival de la Isla will bring some of today’s most exciting salsa performers to Northern California on Saturday, August 24th, 2013.   The festival site is the historic Pena Adobe Park located at 1 Pena Adobe Road, just outside of Vacaville, California.

Also, every year, FDLI picks a Solano County-based charity to assist those in need of assistance.  This year’s theme is “Family Unity” in which attendees can help support the non-profit “The Father’s House” by bringing a can of food to assist those that are struggling in this tumultuous economy.

Thousands of Latin music enthusiasts from throughout California annually gather to share their love for the sights, sounds, taste and aromas of Puerto Rican music, dance, food and drink.  The event runs from 10:00 am through 7:00 pm.  It has become an annual tradition in which the Solano County Puerto Rican community comes together to celebrate culture, family and make new friends.

Salsa Music Legends  both headline FDLI – Tony Vega & Ray De La Paz!

Tony Vega: Renowned salsa singer and band leader, Tony Vega will be the 2013 Festival co-headliner.  In 1988, Vega formed his own band and recorded "solo" for the first time. His album "Yo me Quedo" (I will stay) became a "hit'. He then followed that with the recording of the album "Lo Mio es Amor" (My thing is Love) which included the songs "Ella" (She) and an English track "Love is Forever."  This album earned him his first Golden Record award.  In 1991, Vega won a Platinum Record award with the success of his album "Uno Mismo" (Yourself).  He also participated in Tito Puente’s 100th recording "The Mambo King".   In 1992, he was awarded La Husca Award in Panama and in Puerto Rico won the Golden Agueybana award for Best Orchestra of the Year.

In 1996, Vega participated with Marc Anthony in the opening ceremonies of the 7th Gymnastics World Championships celebrated in Puerto Rico.  His most recent albums include: Cosquilla, Como es Posible, Ella, Uno Mismo, Dame Tiempo, Ya es tiempo de Olvidar, Si miras a los Ojos, Hoy vine a Cantarte, Tropical Tribute to the Beatles and La Combinación Perfecta.

Ray De La Paz - has been singing for over 30 years and has traveled extensively around the world.  This extensive travel has made him a very well known singer within the Salsa community.  Ray was born and raised in New York City's Spanish Harlem and grew up in the Bronx.  It was his mother who convinced him to take vocal lessons.

In 1970, Ray made his debut at the Colgate Gardens with Eddie Palmieri's La Perfecta featuring Ismael Quintana; Joe Cuba featuring Cheo Feliciano and Jimmy Sabater; and
Ricardo Ray and Bobby Cruz.

In 2002, Ray recorded with the Spanish Harlem Orquesta.  The result was the Grammy nominated album, "Un Gran Dia en el Barrio."  Ray continues to be one  of the elite singers with the Spanish Harlem Orquesta.  Among his many achievements, he has won an Ace award, two gold records with the best in salsa music, such as the Ray Barreto Orquesta, Guarare, and Luis Ramirez.
2013 Entertainment Line-up:
The rest of the music line-up make up a who’s who of the Bay Area and Puerto Rico’s hottest and most charismatic salsa musicians, including: Orquesta Bomba Mix, an all merengue group from Los Angeles.  As well as Enrumba.  Latin bands performing here demonstrate music ranging from salsa, merengue to Plena (Puerto Rican traditional rhythms).  In addition, DJ Bosco will spin popular salsa tunes, and Puerto Rican Bomba y Plena Dancers (Loiza) will showcase traditional Puerto Rican dances.

Linda August – Director of FLDI – “It is all about Family & Friends!”

“This festival is 12 years old and it still feels so fresh and alive,” said Linda August, founder of Festival de la Isla.  “The reason we come back and do this festival is because our family and friends tell us how much they appreciate what we bring to Solano County.  Many members of the Festival set-up team have been with us for years.  They became part of our extended family.  They have spent months working very hard to bring the very best salsa entertainment to Solano County.  We encourage you to bring your friends and family.  The unity of our people is what makes this such a beautiful celebration of Puerto Rican culture.  Come taste the foods, buy some of the arts & crafts and dance to the music.”
