Festival de la Isla Celebrates a Decade of Puerto Rican Music and Dance:

Lalo Rodriquez headlines the Entertainment
Vacaville, CA - The 2012 Annual Festival de la Isla will bring some of today’s most exciting and salsa performers to Solano County on Saturday, August 18st, 2012.   The festival site is the historic Pena Adobe Park located at 1 Pena Adobe Road, just outside of Vacaville.
Also, every year, FLDI picks a Solano County-based charity to assist those in need of assistance.  This year’s theme is “Sharing the Bounty of Solano County” in which attendees can help support the non-profit “The Father’s House” by bringing a can of food to assist those that are struggling in this tumultuous economy.  And to demonstrate that we do care about our brothers and sisters here in Solano County.
Thousands of Latin music enthusiasts from throughout California annually gather to share their love for the sights, sounds, taste and aromas of Puerto Rican music, dance, art, food and drink.  The event runs from 10:00 am through 7:00 pm.  It has become an annual tradition in which the Solano County Puerto Rican community comes together to celebrate culture, family and make new friends.
 Direct from Puerto Rico is Salsa Music Legend - Lalo Rodriguez:
 Lalo Rodriguez: is a salsa singer and musician is best known for his hit "Ven Devórame Otra Vez".  In 1973, at only 16 years of age, he was the featured vocalist on Eddie Palmieri's Grammy-winning album "Sun Of The Latin Music."  A year later he sang on "Unfinished Masterpiece", also with Palmieri.  Rodríguez also worked with Machito and Tommy Olivencia's group.  In 1980, he "went solo." Lalo has been compared to other famous salseros like Eddie Santiago, José Alberto, and Frankie Ruiz.  Rodriguez is known for bringing a charismatic stage presence to his shows.  He often interacts with his audience in the tradition of the great Cheo Feliciano.  Rodriguez won the "Tropical Song of the Year" at the Premio Lo Nuestro awards in 1989 for the hit, "Ven, Devórame Otra Vez".  Rodriguez has released a CD featuring his original songs.
 2012 Entertainment Line-up:
The rest of the music line-up make up a who’s who of the Bay Area and Puerto Rico’s hottest and most charismatic salsa musicians, including, Julio Bravo y Su Orquesta Salsabor, Conjunto Alegre, and Pa’l Bailador.  Latin bands performing here demonstrate music ranging from salsa, merengue to Plena (Puerto Rican traditional rhythms).  In addition, DJ Bosco will spin popular salsa tunes, and Puerto Rican Bomba y Plena Dancers (Loiza) will showcase traditional Puerto Rican dances.
Salsa Dance Contest:
A fan favorite with FDLI is a salsa dance contest.  This is the chance to pick your favorite dance partner, dust off your smoothest moves and impress the salsa dance crowd.  There will be cash prizes for:
  • First Place - $150;
  • Second Place - $100
  • Third Place – $50

Linda August – Director of FLDI – “It is all about Family & Friends!”
“It is so hard to believe that this festival is 11 years old,” said Linda August, founder of Festival de la Isla.  “The reason we come back and do this festival is because our family and friends tell us how much they appreciate what we bring to Solano County.  Many members of the Festival set-up team have been with us for years.  They have became part of our extended family.  They have spent months working very hard to bring the very best salsa entertainment to Solano County.  We encourage you to bring your friends and family.  The unity of our people is what makes this such a beautiful celebration of Puerto Rican culture.  Come taste the foods, buy some of the arts & crafts and dance to the music.”
Early Bird Discount for FDLI Tickets

Once again, festival attendees have the opportunity to purchase discount tickets in advance.  Tickets bought in advance are $20.00.  Tickets bought at the door are $25.00.  Children's 12 and under are free.  On-line ticket orders will cease at 7:00 pm on August 17th.  On the day of the event, tickets will have to be purchased at the front gate.
