Festival de la Isla Celebrates a Decade of Puerto Rican Music and Dance:
Salsa Sensation Jerry Rivera Headlines the Entertainment

Vacaville, CA - The 2011 Annual Festival de la Isla will bring some of today’s most exciting and salsa performers to Solano County on Saturday, August 27st, 2011.   The festival site is the historic Pena Adobe Park located at 1 Pena Adobe Road, just outside of Vacaville.

Thousands of Latin music enthusiasts from throughout California annually gather to share their love for the sights, sounds, taste and aromas of Puerto Rican music, dance, food and drink.  The event runs from 10:00 am through 7:00 pm.  It has become an annual tradition in which the Solano County Puerto Rican community comes together to celebrate culture, family and make new friends.

Featured Entertainer is Jerry Rivera:

Jerry Rivera: is known as “Cara de niño,” “El bebe de la Salsa”, and “El Principe de la Salsa”.  His eighteen albums have topped both the Latin and American pop charts. His multi platinum selling album “Cuenta Conmigo” is the best selling salsa album of all time.  Rivera began his career by singing with his father’s band “Los Barones Trio” at the age of thirteen.  Rivera sent a demo of his singing to CBS when he was just fourteen years old. The demo paid off just one year later in 1990, when Rivera’s first album “Abriendo Puertas” was released.  His follow up, 1992’s “Cuenta Conmigo”, ranks as the best selling salsa album of all time, thanks in large part to its three hits “Casi Un Hechizo”, “Como un Milagro”, and “Cuenta Conmigo”. His performance on this record awarded him the “Singer of the Year” from the Lo Nuestro Awards.
Rivera successfully crossed over to the American charts in 2006 when Wyclef Jean and Shakira sampled his song “Amores Como El Nuestro” in the chart topper “Hips Don’t Lie”.  Other Rivera’s albums include the self titled “Jerry Rivera”, “Cara de Nino”, “Fresco”, and the Latin Grammy nominated tribute to Frankie Ruiz, “Cantando A Mi Idolo, Frankie Ruiz”.  In addition to singing, Rivera had appeared in the television novella “Mi Destino Eres Tu” as himself and has a small role in the movie “I Like it Like That”. Most recently, he released the album “Caribe Garde” in 2007.

2011 Entertainment Line-up:

The rest of the music line-up make up a who’s who of salsa music’s hottest and most charismatic salsa musicians from both the Bay Area and Puerto Rico, including, Orquesta America, La Fuerza Gigante, and Avance.  Latin bands performing here demonstrate music ranging from salsa, merengue to Plena (Puerto Rican traditional rhythms).  In addition, DJ Bosco will spin popular salsa tunes, and Salsamania Dance Group will showcase their award-winning routines.

Salsa Dance Contest & Domino Tournament:

A new addition to this year’s festival is a salsa dance contest.  There will be cash prizes for winners.  First - $150; second - $100; and third - $50.  Furthermore, the ever popular domino tournament will return as veteran players demonstrate their skill.

“For me personally, this festival is about family and unity,” said Linda August, founder of Festival de la Isla.  “The event has grown so big during the past decade.  Many members of the Festival team have been with us for years.  They have became part of our family.  They have spent months working very hard to bring the very best salsa entertainment to Solano County.  So we invite you to bring your friends and family.  The unity of our people is what makes this such a beautiful celebration of Puerto Rican culture.  Come taste the foods, buy some of the arts & crafts and dance to the music.”

Food Drive:

Once again, the festival is adding in a food drive as part of the festival program.  As we have for the past two years, we are asking every single person, adult, and children to bring one Can of Food as a donation for those who are in need. The Mission Solano Rescue volunteers will be at the front gate collecting your donations.”

Early Bird Ticket Special & Additional Festival Information:

Once again, festival attendees have the opportunity to purchase discount tickets in advance.  Tickets bought in advance are $20.00.  Tickets bought at the door are $25.00.  Children's 12 and under are free.   For more information on the Festival, how to become a 2011 sponsor or how to get to the Pena Adobe Park, go to www.festivaldelaisla.com, or call Café or Linda August at (707) 426-5591.
