Hi All,
In some cases, against the Km and Vmax values reported in SABIO, the remark that is given says 'apparent'.

For instance in the entry-41131.

Could someone explain what 'apparent' stands for?
Is it the Vmax or Km that has been measured in the presence of inhibitors?

Thanks,
Deepa

Hi Deepa,

the term 'apparent' is given by the authors of the publication.
It names parameters which give apparent values instead of true values because other compounds (e.g. competitive inhibitors or other substrates in multi-substrate reactions) could hinder the determination of true values.

For entry 41131 the authors describe a substrate inhibition by Acetyl-CoA which could affect the true values. Further details for that specific entry you can find in the paper: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2048733

regards,
Ulrike
