It's very likely your car is choosing to use the wired connection for audio and bypassing the Bluetooth connection when plugged in. It explains why you can hear audio just fine when only connected to via Bluetooth.

I unpaired the car and iphone. Had each device forget/delete connection. Re-paired and tried navigation again. I only get verbal directions over bluetooth. The instant I plug-in cable to charge, I no longer get verbal commands.

The iphone is connected to the car via bluetooth. I can play music through siri & apple music but I haven't tried listening to music with the phone plugged-in via the wire. I know the siri directions broadcast over the stereo speakers via bluetooth, but when I plug-in the cable to charge the phone, the verbal directions stop. When I unplug the cable, I get verbal directions again over the stereo.

Since one of the iOS 14 updates, about 6 months ago, after a few uses in the car, iOS will not see that the iPhone has been unplugged from the car, and as a result you will get no audio out of your speakers and attempting to plug the phone back into the car will cause a "Only one accessory can be used at a time" error to pop up on the screen.

Checking your sound output settings will show that the iPhone thinks it's still playing audio out the dock connector, and there is no option to play audio out the speaker. The ear piece will still work, bluetooth or other headphones will still work, however lighting devices won't work. There is also no interface sounds like keyboard clicks, lock sounds, and whatnot when in this state.

It's very clearly a bug, and there have been several iOS updates since that have failed to address the issue. Perhaps it's more common on older phones, however it is not related to the phone hardware, or phone data, as I've had both my hardware replaced and this happens with a fresh or restored iPhone, using multiple authentic Apple cables.

It is an issue because it's been reported by hundreds of users. It's less prevalent on newer devices since this kind of issue is usually one of timing. iOS doesn't detect that it's gotten unplugged from the car likely because something in iOS misses the message that the device got unplugged, and only rechecks everything after a reboot, or doing a force quit of springboard by holding the home button at the shutdown slider.

I have a similar problem. I recently got the Anki Mobile app on my iPad and the sounds labeled as .mp3 in my flashcards play in the Desktop version but not in the iPad version.
How were you able to solve the problem?
I would appreciate your help

I have been working with the Anki Desktop version. I recently got the Anki Mobile app on my iPad and synced all my decks.
The problem I have is that the sound in my flashcards only play in the Desktop version but not in the iPad version. All of the sounds are shown as .mp3.

How do I check the filetype?
I use the Anki Desktop on my PC to create my flashcards. I have the Add-on to attach/download the sounds from Forvo to my flashcards.
In all of my flashcards the sound looks similar to this: [sound:ひと-3645839.mp3]
They all have the .mp3 in the end.

I have an extension in Chrome setup to search a word on my favorite native-speaker-audio sites. If I like what I hear, I click download then drag the file to my field on Anki (or copy-paste the link, on sites that allow that).

I've seen this question several times, and all of the fixes do not work for me. Or after a reboot of iphone they work for a day and then the Macbook comes back as option. I just want the Speaker as option - not both.

I have disabled handoff on both devices (even checking and then unchecking the Macbook and Ipad options on phone) I have rebooted. Turned bluetooth off on both devices (had to turn back on with Mac - have a mouse)

I just tried your suggestion(pardon my ignorance; I'm not adept at Mac Music yet). I hit the ellipsis on a given file; I hit "export" which opened two rows of apps as you said. BELOW those 2 rows is the "open in" tab. But when I hit that tab the file exported somewhere(I have no idea where it went). In other words it didn't ask me which app to pick.

I figured out how to download the files and assemble them into an Apple Music playlist. The files in question are audio recordings I made several years ago. As such they weren't recognized by the Music app until I opened each one, so loading the list was a bit time consuming.

Once the list was assembled, I noticed the playback happened at random. In other words, if I played the first item in the list, after it ended the next item played was NOT the second item...but another item from somewhere else on the list. I want lists to play in order without me having to individually hit each one to start it. Is this an Apple flaw or did I do something wrong in assembling the list? Thanks again for your attention and help.

From the sounds of it though, it looks like your playlists aren't set to play by the order of your tracks but randomly. You might want check with Apple directly for guidance on how you'd need to set this up to achieve the desired result.

I had the same problem with iHeart Radio and other internet audio streaming. After someone called while I was streaming audio, the audio would skip for a second approximately every 4 seconds. I tried shutting down / restart and resetting network settings which did not solve the issue. I called Apple Support and they suggested backing up the iPhone to iCloud and doing a factory reset. Under Settings/General/Transfer or Reset iPhone/Back up to iCloud/Clear all data from Phone. That worked.

Carplay audio was working fine until I installed update 17.1.1, then it stopped working. CarPlay works fine, so the regular checks and fixes to restore CarPlay are irrelevant. It's just the audio that's stopped. Anyone else encounter this problem?

Those are standard procedure and among the first things I checked. My problem turned out to be that the microphone icon on the CarPlay display was hidden. Once I got it to appear and unmuted it all was well.

I am having similar connectivity issues that started from once I got the iOS 17.1 update in my 2022 Chevrolet Silverado, horrid issues to get my phone to connect with carplay; I had no issues before. Apple needs to get on fixing these issues...

The strange thing I experience, is that it looks like that the audio is put into a different mode in the car (e.g. something like speech mode) and doesn't turn back to regular audio mode. Even the radio sound does not work in my case. After many attempts (rebooting, connect, disconnect, etc), I found the following worked in my case:

When the audio is in silent mode, try to make a voice call to e.g. your voicemail box and hang-up. In my case this sets the audio in the right mode again and it all works. I have turned off all apps that could trigger going back to the silent mode, so this is not a long term solution, but for me it works for now.

I couldn't connect to my vehicle at all (23 Toyota Rav4) after the 17.1.1 update. I had no problems earlier today with using my CarPlay, now I can't even connect. My read on the update is that it was supposed to fix some problem related to connecting to Apple Car Play, so something was done in the update that impacted this.

press and hold the voice command button on your steering wheel. Make sure that your stereo is in wireless or Bluetooth mode. Then on your iPhone, go to Settings > Wi-Fi, and make sure that Wi-Fi is also turned on. Tap the CarPlay network, and check that Auto-Join is turned on. Then, go to Settings > General > CarPlay, and select your car. Check your car manual for more information.

Husband and son's phones are at 17.1.1 and mine is still at 17.0.3 for some reason. Neither of theirs will connect to the car (Grand Cherokee Trailhawk hybrid) any more, but mine still will. They also tried theirs in my car (Grand Cherokee again, but not the hybrid), and same issue - neither of theirs will work, but mine will. No issues with either of their phones before the update. Needless to say, I've turned off automatic updates right now...

Updating iOS on your iPhone should typically not alter the fundamental functionality of the device. It's possible that there were underlying issues before this update, which you might not have been aware of previously or might not have noticed.

In general, iOS updates are designed to enhance the user experience, improve security, and fix bugs, rather than introducing major disruptions to core features. The reported issue of the screen flickering and displaying a white screen after an update is likely caused by factors that are not explicitly mentioned in your post.
