Times Of India news paper has quoted Sri Sri Ravishankar as follows - "Homosexuality has never been considered a crime in Hindu culture. In fact Lord Ayyappa was born of Hari - Hara (Vishnu and Shiva)"

It is unfortunate that people without an understanding of Mythology, Puranaas, or the Meanings & Messages behind them are considered 'Spiritual Gurus'. While Sri Sri Ravishankar may hold any view on homosexuality and for whatever reason, his reference to the birth of Lord Ayyappa has been uncalled for, inaccurate, and clearly demonstrates his ignorance of the subject. Nowhere in the Puranaas has Lord Ayyappa been projected as born to two male forms. Sri Sri Ravishankar owes an apology to everyone ,particularly to all Ayyappa devotees for this misrepresentation . Ayyappa devotees must, in an unobtrusive manner convey their displeasure to Sri Sri Ravishankar
