No question Velocity Deep-V rims are strong. But I rejected them for a
trike project despite their extreme cool factor because you must use valve
extenders for the tubes. Valve extenders (needed for HED wheels, for
example) add complexity, make regular Presta valves less reliable, and make
it harder to change a tire.

Oddly enough, this lunchtime I helped a colleague fix his bike which
has been lying dormant in the car park for about a month. This
machine's valves were Presta, but with impressively long stems. No
idea what make, or why his beat-up old 10-speed heap should have them,
but they looked long enough to fit an aero rim.

You are right, it is possible to find long-stemmed 559 tubes, but I haven't
been able to find any for a 406 wheel. I'd sure like to find some.
