Hello class,

It has come to my attention that some of you may have access to a PDF version of the book “AT Still: From Dry Bone to Living Man” that you did not purchase.

I’d like to offer you some perspective that you may not be aware of:

The author, John Lewis, is a British trained osteopath who spent 14 years of his career researching and writing the book. He read everything ever written by or about AT Still and put together a gift to the osteopathic profession. Rather than publishing with a large publishing company that would give him little for his effort, he chose to self-publish to garner a modest benefit for all his time.

By using a free version of this book, you have committed a copyright violation. This is both illegal and unprofessional. In this digital age, where everything is seemingly accessible in an instant, this may not seem like a big deal, but let me assure you that it is.

In your career, you will have many situations where your character is called into question – whether you are aware of it or not. Although this is seemingly a small deviation from pristine ethical character, that is always how it starts. Subsequent questionable ethical decisions seem less and less problematic. One day, you will be so off course that you wonder how your ethics got misguided. This type of behavior is synonymous with behavior that can land you a malpractice suit, in jail, or without a license to practice medicine.

I would encourage you all to examine you behavior and do the right thing.

If anyone has information that they would like to share anonymously regarding this issue, I would be most appreciative. I am not looking to punish anyone, but this practice should stop immediately.

Thank you for listening.
